When you open the drains you are getting a blast of high pressure air with an oil water mist in it. Just putting the end of the hose in a bucket ends up spraying the water/oil condensate all over. You need something like the towel or the scrubby pads to diffuse the air blast, slow down the air velocity, allow the volume of air to exit the container fast enough, yet also allow the oily water to collect at the base without getting sprayed all over the next time you open the drains.

I drain into an equivilant of a square shaped plastic bleach container. fluid goes in and then when its air i can see the sides of the container swell. My drain lines are clear tygon tubing. you dont have to blow hard to do the drain.

in the pic you can see the clear hoses that go to the bottle, hope to have auto drains soon so that will require screwed on hoses on the auto valves.

here is my collection bottle

this is 2 of them. i have 2 more on the compressor, one for each drain

yes you can use a clamp if you want ,,,,, vent it some what slow though. you will find how fast you can drain when the hose blows off. The the barb is small so you dont get a lot of holding power form the clamp. crack the valve at first, let it drain and than open up a bit more so that air is causing the back pressure and not fluid.

Thanks bud, I’ll do that. So do you just crack it open a little bit until fluid stops exiting, then open it up more? (As opposed to just opening it more straight away?

Thanks for showing me the photo. Yeah I can see those - they’ve got clamps on them, too :) Auto drains would be nice, but they’re pricey! What compressor have you got in that pic?

You mentioned a good point. When you’re draining into the bottle, you can’t see the fluid leaving the hose. So do you just close the valve when the container starts expanding?

Cheers

that is correct. that whipping hose can beat you up and leave welts if unrestrained

this compressor is a bauer capitano call august industries in dallas area and they can get you drain valves for perhaps 350-450. If nothing else trigger the valves with power untill you get the timers to auto time. If you need a number I can get one for you and you can reference me if you want.

the bottles have a vent on them and the slower fluid rate does nto exceed teh vent rate unlike when it vents air at a faster rate and causes the bottle to swell a bit.

Thanks buddy! Although I’m based in the UK, so a bit far away :)

Tbh, my folks aren’t long enough for me to justify auto drain..

Thanks! You may have saved me some bruises!!

That’s pretty clever, yet so simple! I’ll try that :)
