My membership expires shortly but I don’t have any plans to dive any time soon.
Is there any benefit to having uninterrupted coverage?
I don’t see that there is a discount for renewing before the expiration date and saving the $150+ until I know I will be diving seems a better scenario.

DAN is an incredibly valuable service for the scuba community but you're right that there's no penalty for letting it lapse and then re-joining. I would also have a hard time personally recommending that you get insurance for an activity you're not doing right now.

My only concern about letting it lapse is how easy it is to forget to renew (happened to me even after I reminded myself a week before getting back in the water). Also, DAN has taken a big hit during this pandemic and if you have the ability to make a donation, please consider it. If you can make a donation and the amount you're comfortable with is more than the cost of basic insurance, you might as well get the basic insurance and upgrade it later if you need to. If you're not in a position to make a donation, save your money but remember to sign up again before your next dive.

To that end let it lapse and put a big note on your mask/regulator to renew before you dive again.

I knew a guy who let his lapse, forgot to renew when he re-started diving, and then got bent. Expensive, painful lesson.

DAN's support for diving is unparalleled. I would encourage you to keep it current for the simple reason that we should all be supporting DAN and the work they do. If you cannot afford it than make absolutely sure you remember to renew before you start diving again.

A while ago I put an 8 year pause on my diving and our DAN membership (wife and me), but immediately renewed it, and added our daughter (the reason for my 8-year absence from diving) with returning to diving. My current card states my "member since" as my original enrollment from 30+ years ago.

I let DAN lapse and always make sure I renew right after I make my plane reservations.

I am in the same situation, unable to dive until at least Nov. and have to have a heart lung scan then to decide if I can ever dive again. But I did renew my DAN insurance this month, just because of all the support they give us divers. They are also helping me locate a doctor to read my scans.

Same here.

The premium for Dan, are those monthly, yearly, quarterly? I saw that membership is 35 a year, but wasn't sure on the insurance premiums.... Would assume monthly, but thought I would make sure
