So, tell me more about these mosquitos. Are they mainly concentrated around the water? All the beaches? Everywhere in town? Just trying to prepare myself. I have reef safe sunblock, but is mosquito spray reef safe?

I'm also reading posts on Facebook about people putting a 50/50 mix of water and apple cider vinegar into a spray bottle, then either spraying themselves down with it, or spraying down their patio and screen door with it. Apparently it works pretty well.

Mosquitoes have been thick everywhere. Even taking the SI on the boat closer to shore, we still get some that get out there. The bigger mosquitoes (not the black ones - Aedes aegypti) like the afternoon but mosquitoe hours (dawn and dusk) are bad in general.

did you say, "croc capture"?
Article at Noticaribe (Spanish). From the pictures I'd guess about 8 feet long - a little longer than the bed of the full-size pickup truck they loaded it into. Some of the other reports say it was spotted in the water in front of the Malecon near Guidos.

Thanks. I've got some Deep Woods Off, but I just bought this 100% Deet stuff to bring along as well since someone was saying that only high % deet products seem to help.

I can't stand mosquitos, especially when I'm trying to relax or sleep. I would suck on Naked and Afraid...lol.
Yes, DEET is the only thing they really hate.

I've had pretty good success with Deep Woods Off (25% DEET), Cutter Repel Max (40% Deet), and the Repel Lemon Eucalyptus repellents. 100% DEET is pretty rough on the skin. Unless you're planning on spending the day hiking through raw jungle, I think it's overkill. I prefer of the smell of the Lemon Eucalyptus repellent, but that burns a bit on the skin as well.

If you have room, I would suggest bringing your preferred repellent with you. Someone mentioned that Sam's carries Deep Woods Off, but that's a bit out of the way. All I see at Mega and Chedraui are the regular Off products, which are 10-15% DEET, and there seems to be a noticeable drop-off in effectiveness.

I brought my Deep Woods Off from a US Sam's Club. I haven't seen it in Cozumel Sam's Club, but I have seen the smaller bottles around town. Expensive though. Much better to bring it from home.

I guess whenever I hear of a salt-water croc I think of those dinosaur-sized mthrfckrs in Australia that surf in the break and swallow you whole.

Pretty much sums up my week.

You're talking about a crocodile, not the mosquitos, right? Just checking... :D
