I have seen many second-hand reports in many news organizations putting forth different details from the coroner's report, and of course drawing different conclusions. Those organizations' motives and methodologies are suspect -- after all, they are for-profit, and make more money when their reporting reaches more eyeballs.

I have not seen any of them linking to the actual coroner's report. Is it publicly available? I would like to read it myself if at all possible.

A ScubaBoard Staff Message...

I have moved a number of discussion posts here from Media links - Conception Tragedy

The Media Thread was created for links and a brief summary to make it easy for people to locate links without having to search through discussions. There is a list of discussion spin off threads including this one on the Original post there.

If you have a media link to add please do so after reading the first post. If you wish to discuss the content of the link please re-post the link here and discuss it here.

Thank you for your co-operation in helping in our efforts to provide as much information and opportunity to learn from this tragedy as is respectfully possible.

Does anyone know if they had a night watchman on this vessel considering the size and amount of people aboard?

As I recall, the crew was asleep when the fire started. A crew member awoke to find the galley/lounge area fully involved.

IIRC, they were supposed to have one, but he fell asleep.

I no longer trust anyone in such risks, ever. I carry my own Smoke & CO alarm on any trip.

Thanks. There is a lot of material to go through here, nice to have the original source. Skimmed the first one, and just a heads up: there are details which are not for the weak of stomach.
Well, you asked for the report. Now read it and don’t just “skim through it”.

Just finished reading all the coroner's reports. There is no doubt in my mind now that at least some of the victims dressed, grabbed some stuff and tried to get off the boat.

Which ones (#) did you use to determine that?
