Regulator configuration for recreational diving

There has been considerable discussion on this topic in light of Covid-19 based dive regulations by a popular Caribbean dive operator Resort's " New Normal " Rule - No AIR 2 or diving your long hose What is your regulator configuration for single tank recreational diving?

My primary recreation configuration is a long(er) hose primary (44"), routed under my arm with an air2 back up. Depending on the dive, I'll sling a pony, dive sidemount, etc, as necessary.

40” primary and Air2. But, considering bungeed secondary.

Looks like I should have included long hose primary with combo inflator/reg backup. I will add this choice, you can easily change your vote.

Primary on 5ft long hose, necklaced secondary

Primary on a comfortably sized (short) hose for solo, necklaced (bungeed) secondary.

I'm unsure what to vote for as I am completely opposed to a donated second in the 'triangle' [ @couv, et al: UNLESS you are diving a double hose rig.] Nor do I have any intention whatsoever of diving a long hose solo. Massive PIA.

If I (super unlikely) come across a diver in distress while diving (always solo), you get the reg in my mouth, I'm instantly on my necklace, we are going up face-to-face with me on your inflator no matter what your obligation. I was trained to approach from the back, take control of inflation, purge and plug, lovely theory but I believe in 'No emergency goes as planned'.

@scubadada: Any chance of adding a choice that allows for differentiating between 'short primary and bungeed second' vs. 'short primary with a clipped-off safe second in the triangle'? I see an enormous difference between these two choices.

That's one 'popular Caribbean dive operator' that I would not patronize. Honestly, if you are that concerned about contracting covid-19, you really should not be diving on a boat with others.

Interestingly, I am planning a dive trip in June; cave diving in Mexico. The situation I'll be in is pretty controlled, I will really only have close contact with one other person on the whole trip other than the flight, but I would not get on a dive boat with several strangers at this point.

Hi, I meant that as choice 1, assuming the most would know the hose for the alternate would be longer than the primary. Does this not meet your criteria? Do you dive a longer secondary?

choice 1 is short and short.
