I always drag my AL19 pony with me when I travel and to date have almost never had a problem The lone exception happened this February traveling between Curacao and Grenada. The flights go through Port of Spain, Trinidad and there resides one particular inspector that wouldn't allow my pony through. Yes, the valve was off, but he considered the pony a blunt weapon that could be used nefariously.

The "work-around" he offered was for me to get a gate agent to mark the bag as gate-checked baggage.

So I proceeded to find a gate agent who told me this is a common this with this particular inspector and there is no policy he is following. So the kind gate agent went with me, a bag slip in hand, tagged the bag and he and I walked the suitcase around the corner, out of sight of the inspector, and handed it back to me.

LMAO

I'm going to travel with mine for the 1st time in a couple of months, but was going to check it in luggage with some clothes and carry all of my other gears as carry-on.

Had a similar issue at Haneda in Japan. They wouldn't let my AL19 pony in my carry on. But I had no issues at Naha, Ishigaki, and Narita.

I had my mini zip ties confiscated in Turks and caicos....same deal - someone making up rules

I'm sorry if this is off topic (please if I've missed a relavent thread send me packing) but I'm curious if you ever run into issues getting the tank filled? Is it really so easy as to simply drain the tank, remove the valve, and travel around? I was recently trying to look into moving with a tank from Europe to the US and it sounded almost impossible. Does this work for you because the areas you travel between share regulations? Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions!

I've had no issues with traveling with my pony between the US and a couple different places in the Caribbean.

I’m the OP Almost never had a problem with a fill Almost always I ask before and offer to pack a fill whip. The only exception was NZ. I didn't ask before the trip to Poor Knights, came to there from Fiji NZ folks have a special tank certification (DOT and/or TC doesn't count) plus they MUST do a VIP + hydro yearly. (full employment for dive ops)

They were kind enough to loan me a pony for my dives. Otherwise my fill whip doesn't weigh that much and even an AL80 Is enough for a AL 19 Pony

Flew to Texas once with some weights in my carry-on. Maybe 6 two pounders. Security guard picked one up and made a waving motion to see (I guess) if it was viable as a weapon. Yeah, that would be my weapon of choice if I were up to no good. Hitting someone with a small weight would make the other 200 passengers terrified of me.

Zip ties are not allowed, they can be used to restrain people.

However I'm sure in your case it would take a lot of mini zip ties to manage this.

I had two Allen keys confiscated when I was flying out of Bali a couple of years ago. I guess I could have dismantled the plane with them
