On the 23rd I'll be somewhere in the south of Rinca, 24th as well as the liveaboard is leaving on 23rd.
21st and 22nd we'll be overnighting in LBJ .

If that means in Horseshoe Bay, try and get them to dive Eagle Rock, it's under dived since it's a submerged pinnacle and a bit hard to find. Its amazing.

I've just posted a trip report on Ocean View in Tulamben. Feel free to PM me if you have any specific questions. Or just ask on the thread.

Ask the resort that you are staying at to organise a driver for you for the day. And then just tell them the sort of thing you want to see and ask them what they suggest and then go exploring! It is a bit of a drive but worth it.

Unfortunately Shenron and few other LoBs we considered for the given days in Komodo seem not to have enough divers to sail (at least for now). Are there any resources other than padi travel and liveaboard.com to look for available trips??

Does it worth going to Labuan Bajo to try our luck for last moment changes and worst case dive land based?

If not, it seems highly probable/inevitable that we will stick to Bali, hence back to the initial plan.

@AlMitch I saw your report and the place looks very nice (although it falls a bit outside our budget). We'll keep it in mind though.

Thanks anyway.

Have you looked into Moanna? Its a middle-range boat and I could not recommend them more.

Komodo Liveaboard | Diving in Komodo National Park, Indonesia with Moana Cruising

Yes we have seen Moana and we like it, but unfortunately it seems that they don't have any bookings (so far). We are just 2 ppl and they won't do the trip only for us.

Queenasia's trip on the 16th seems to be our "best" option. They seem to have 2 bookings already (4 including us) and we hope they'll do the trip for half occupancy (8 beds in total).

We still hope that few more people will join Shenron on the 18th (this suits us the best) - but nothing so far.

We are not in hurry. Worst case we just stay in Bali and enjoy diving there.

Best dive sites for macro are Tulamben south to Amed. Last year the hot area was Seraya (east & west).

Last year the best site was hands down Batu Ringgit northwest of Tulamben : rhinopias, wonderpus, tiger shrimps, hairy shrimps, tozeuma shrimps, lots of nudis of which cyerce kikutarobabai.

Just as an update. We haven't confirmed anything yet. According to Padi travel, the only LoBs with confirmed departures within our dates as of yesterday are Yoshi (4N/5D South Komodo for ~1000euros) on the 16th and Jaya (6N/7D in central/north Raja Ampat for ~1500 euros) on the 19th.

With Yoshi we can have 3-4 nights after the LoB in Bali to relax and dive a bit more (maybe 2 diving days).
With Jaya we have 6 free days before the LoB and practically none after it, but since there is no good connection between Bali and Sorong, Bali can't be an option here. Being stuck for 6 days in Jakarta with inlaws etc sound like a big nightmare :)

So Yoshi seems to be our choice.

You could as well start your trip from either Ambon or Manado, it's only a short flight to Sorong.

BTW I just fount out that the 25th of March - the day I was supposed to fly back to Jakarta - is the Nyepi holiday and especially in Bali EVERYTHING (even Denpasar airport) is closed. So, if I go to Bali I have one day less.

I am also considering alternatives, for example I have fount few available options for mid range Komodo LoB.

Yup, funnily enough my friend and I are arriving on the 23rd so will stay in Tulamben so the 25th we just need to stay inside the resort area. No walking around outside. It's not just that places are closed you also need to not be out and about too much.
