That would not help. The word went out today, from some dive ops, on FB, etc. and people are going to discuss it, whether in this thread, on new threads, on FB, or whatever. It's really best to do so here, with SB moderation, and not try to hush the talk.

Dandy Don - OF COURSE it would help because everything here is based on conjecture, rumor and misinformation.
OF COURSE it should wait until OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT and STATEMENTS are made. PERIOD.

How do you know that? Maybe the official announcement will confirm exactly what has been put out? In any event, what is the tangible harm in discussing it? If the official announcement contains some significant different version then the discussion will adjust. Censorship and suppression of discussion is never in the best interests of the community.

Hoses leak, gaskets leak, water bottles leak, and so does information. Not to mix metaphors but the genie is out of the bottle. The toothpaste is out of the tube. It's not going back.

I'm just surprised to find out that the cruise industry fees don't put anything back to reef protection. Well, not really surprised, it happens elsewhere too, just sad I guess. People are willing to kill the thing that got them on the map for a few bucks.

ScubaBoard moderators moderate to the terms of service. So I am pretty confident there is no way that ScubaBoard will remove this thread. Except in the Accidents and Incidents forum when reporting names of accident victims and operators, the TOS don't require officially approved announcements about ANYTHING. Indeed already this communication has been posted on other Cozumel discussion boards and the cat is out of the bag.

Coz authorities may well be in damage control and dive ops (among others) working in a full-on counter-offensive.

BTW, this (any any of my previous) statements preclude me from acting as a moderator in this thread, so feel free to disagree with me if you wish and my responses will be those of a PT Coz resident and diver. I don't see this ending well for divers or dive ops.

And discuss it instead over here: Cozumel 4 You

We realize that this is early news, and of course it's best to wait and see what will really be announced Monday. I hope the diving organization is successful in bringing the greater powers to their senses.

It just looks bad, then fails.

Not only that, but you are better off getting feedback like how many people would alter their plans and not come to Cozumel is these changes are implemented. Like right now the local dive community in Florida are trying to get feedback against the NOAA plans to close a number of dive sites except for certified commercial operators. The links to the regulation feedback page is being passed around.

Some of you are missing one important point. There are 15 identified sites north of town that way outshine most of those down south. This may make it a good time to check it out.

Why haven't most ops been going there all along?
