I was craving a great steak last night so I tried La Terraza. (corner of 5 Ave & Solas) I had the 10 oz filet mignon and the blue cheese salad. What an awesome dinner! The service was outstanding too. I ended up paying $42 including a 20% tip.

What is NOT "authentic and local" in this era of globalization?

I've been trying to peruse this thread backwards and forwards to see if Mr. Taco was mentioned. I did see it over the 13 pages. I would head back there in a heartbeat. The cab ride to or from costs more than all the tacos I could eat.

The owner is a woman and, as far as I know, she does not spearfish.

There is no way La Perlita could serve as much lionfish as they do without buying most of it, even if their entire staff were snorkeling with spears all day.

They created a market in part to support a fishery with a goal of reducing local the lionfish population and remain one of the biggest purchasers of lionfish.

It is authentically lionfish, it's (now) local, and it's delicious. La Perlita also has a number of very traditional things such as empanadas de cazón (dogfish) for breakfast.

Another DM with another operation said La Perlita catches all their own lionfish. He said they have their own boat.

Mister Taco is good. They don't have the tortillas a mano that some other places do, but their trompo is good.

Not that Mister Taco is at all expensive, but it sounds as if you're probably being overcharged for taxi if you're staying in town.

I can't prove that isn't the case, but as far as I know lionfish can only practically be speared and not netted or caught on lines.

We have Mr taco on our must do list of a tree day guide to cozumel eats - Best Cozumel Restaurants | 3-day dining guide | stingrayvilla.com

I ate at Le Chef my last night and was pretty disappointed. I had eaten at their old location, and sought them out on this trip. I had the steak (covered with cheese and a sauce under the cheese). I found it way too salty. The vegetables were over salted ad well (but not as bad). Hopefully, your experience will be better.

Or, I eat less tacos than you.

Mr. Taco is great, our new favorite is Tacos Diaz on 30. Excellent pastor, a cross between Pique and Mr Taco, being the meat is cut larger like Mr. Taco but caramelized nicely like Pique.
