You must not have seen the movie "Red Dawn", which shows how Cuban Paratroopers can invade the United states, reducing us to fighting guerrilla warfare to beat them off. How can you even think of visiting this existential threat to American freedom, cleverly positioning itself only a few miles from the Miami sound machine?

I'm surprised the USA is positioned so close to Cuba. :)

Gotta agree, the whole 7th Cav area (Fulda Gap down to Nurnberg n Ansbach) was SOL regarding divable lakes. How did you ever end up in GITMO, since I assume that you were Army during your Warner Bks times?

Michael
I got married to an Ami and she works for the Navy.

When did USA stop the folk from leaving GITMO?

It was years ago that I was in Varadero but we met some guys on our hotel beach. I suppose that they could have been Canadian guys that were fibbing but hey, what do I know?

So, has this always been a thing that the staff and crew on base aren't allowed out?

Sinve the "Cuban Missle Crisis"

Cuba…. What a great country… A beautiful hell...

1. Innocent peoples deaths caused by the revolution: 100,000+

2. Major sponsor and training ground for terrorism

3. Where hookers make more than surgeons

4. A country that eliminates the most basic freedoms we take for granted such as speech, religion, travel and career choice

5. A country where you wait in line for days to buy a pair of shoes with no guarantee they’ll fit, with rationing coupons for your age group

6. Where children are stripped from your home to work sugar fields for months - 18 hr days, no sunscreen, no breaks even for water, no shoes, and sleep in a dirt floored shack on a bed made from a burlap sack

7. Where human rights violations are second only to China

Sure, go on your vacation and naively think your interactions with the Cuban people will help them along with your money… Believe me, it will not. Go visit Isla de “La Juventud” now that is has a pretty touristic spin on it… Knowing 1000s of heroes like my father were incarcerated, tortured and or killed there on a daily basis – AND STILL ARE IN OTHER PRISONS…I wonder if you called it by it's REAL name would they lock you up....

I hope and pray you don’t say or do anything they deem illegal so you don’t get locked up.

Why don’t you Cuba fans plan a vacation to North Korea for 2020? I am sure the people there will appreciate your presence the same way.

I know my opinion and family's experience is not what anyone WANTS to hear but it is reality and what everyone NEEDS to hear. Our presence and our money do not help the people there... Last I read, the dollar is illegal and Cubans caught with them could end up tossed in jail for possessing them (no, i can not ask my family - the govt reads every email sent)..
