after posting about a tank i just aquired with an unusual (to me) valve, i got the answer i was looking for. Now im in the market for a 1/2" NPS valve that will work for an old steel 72. anybody with an old one laying around that they're willing to part with?

Just to clarify are you looking for a vintage one? (J valve?) because they are still available new from XS scuba as a k pro valve with din/yoke insert.

the only ones i could find new are the tapered npt valve not nps. can you post a link of the straight nps style?

Enjoy your 72! A great tank rather than an AL80...

Pretty sure they are 1/2" NGT (National Gas Thread), not nps.
Close, but not the same.
Sorry but don't have any.
Above sources and ebait are about it.

I see them occasionally on ebay but usually along with vintage, collector's items type prices. I have a little 1800 psi CO2 fire extinguisher that is waiting for a cheap one.

Did your tank come without a valve?

it came with 2000 psi and an NPT tapered thread screwed in as tight as they could get it, but it was still 2/3 exposed threads and a tiny leak... bet UPS didnt know they were shipping a bomb

Fortunately we now have Teflon Tape instead of pipe dope. I hope your threads are still OK after the tapered valve incident.

I'm kinda surprised that UPS didn't inspect it and require removal of the valve for shipping.
