The transmitter issue was not a sensor issue - it was a safety issue regarding the physical handling of high pressure. My understanding is that it was possible for the plastic cap/body to fail (explode?) when pressuring the tank. I don't know if anything inside was changed by the service centers or if the plastic cap was upgraded, but the most significant added element was adding a small pressure flow restrictor to the unit inlet so the interior pressure builds more slowly upon initial pressurization.

The SUUNTO depth pressure recall is only for the USA and has nothing to do with the transmitter issue. SUUNTO denied that they had an issue for years despite the fact that they were battling this in court.

Does anyone know if Suunto will replace / reimburse for other countries? I have pitched a d4i and currently still have a d6i and a vyper that would all fall under this recall period...

No. Unless purchased in the USA, you are not going to get reimbursed.

From the settlement:

You are part of the Settlement if you are an individual who purchased a new Suunto Dive Computer described in Question 3 in any of the fifty United States, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico or any of the territories or possessions of the United States. This group of purchasers is called the “Class.”

Excluded from the Class are: (a) Defendants and their respective officers, directors and employees; (b) Plaintiffs’ Counsel; (c) judges assigned to these lawsuits and their immediate associated court staff; (d) individuals who purchased used Dive Computers as to those used purchases only; (e) retailers or others who purchased a Suunto Dive Computer for resale; and (f) individuals who timely and properly exclude themselves from the Class.

Hi everyone,
I'm new to the ScubaBoard. I found this thread while searching for info on the Suunto computer problem. This thread has been very informative. I'm shocked that there isn't any recall information listed on Suunto's site- I almost thought I was mistaken about hearing about the Suunto problem!

Anyway, I have a Zoop Novo that I've used for over a hundred dives so far and the depth guage always has seemed accurate and I haven't had any issues so far. I have a dive trip coming up this weekend and was hoping to get some opinions on if it's safe to dive with the computer or not. From others I've talked to, it seems like they have glaring problems soon after buying the computer, but I've had mine for over two years with no issues. I'd prefer not to spend a bunch of money renting or buying a backup computer if I can avoid it. Granted, having a backup is wise regardless- I'm just not in the best position to make that purchase right now. One of my friends is planning to lend me an extra computer, so that is a relief. Thanks for your input!

Reminder/clarifications:
  1. Title on thread is misleading. The affected computers are subject to a legal settlement in the US for original purchaser, but are NOT recalled.
  2. Yes, the settlement says you can send yours for inspection. But I called a service center I know and as I suspected, that is pretty pointless. If you have a unit that has not failed, an inspection will only confirm it works. It can NOT predict if it will fail in the near or distant future.
  3. If you want to send for an inspection anyway, there is a service center locator on the Suunto US website. Expect to pay to ship there; you would have to ask them if there will be any other costs, such as return shipping.

Keep using it. If it’s still working, there is no reason to assume that it will suddenly go bad.

Well, except there's a class-action lawsuit about them suddenly going bad....

Did you actually read the class action? The majority of computers have not gone bad. This is a settlement and all computers within the class may be repaired or replaced if bad.

One of my favorite mosquitos went bad last week , sensor cuts in and out , I am in Canada so I decided to rob the switches and faceplate to put on one of my worn ones , now I have a nice lightweight waterproof watch so all is not bad , I have three left so I should be good for awhile , the mosquito is by far my favorite wristmount of all time , call me crazy but I will still buy Suunto , and to confirm my insanity I have a love affair with my Force Tan Delta Fins ….

You do not have to pay shipping to send a computer for inspection or repair. You can print a free shipping label from the Suunto website.
