Huge waves have been smashing Bali this week... Don't know how the reefs are going to look after this :(

Anyone know how the reefs are doing after the earthquake/tsunami? Going to padangbai and tulamben at the end of september....

The Lombok earthquakes (there was no tsunami) have had no effect on the reefs on Bali. It had a minimal impact on life on land on Bali, even in East Bali...

The storm front is totally unrelated to the e earthquakes. Big waves at the end of July and beginning of August did have some effects at sites like Tepekong & Mimpang and Crystal Bay. We need to wait until displaced sediments settle before we can fully evaluate the impact this has had.

I, too, was disappointed with Puri Jati when I was there a couple of years ago. As for Secret Bay, the owner of the dive op in Pemuteran that I used, Sea Rovers, sounded very discouraged and dissuaded me from giving it a go. Please report back with your impressions.

We dived secret bay 2 days ago, very dissapointed. 100 minutes dive at 22-23 deg C, searching every inches, practicaly found nothing.

This morning another 22 deg C at manta point, several mantas plus hundreds divers.
Second dive at crystals bay, a bit warmer, 23 C but no Mola, again another hundreds divers.

Any word on the reefs? Did they take a big hit?

PhatD--What the drive from Manila to Anilao lacks is the intimacy of mountain roads, there aren't those freeway like stretches once you get away from DPS. Much more likely you'll stay awake though, snaking your way across Bali!

A day for diving Tulamben huh? To each their own. We're back for two weeks in mid-October, having been there five times now (and yes, LDR is where to stay). Possibly they put something addictive in their nitrox? Realistically there is much more to the diving there than the Liberty wreck. Jeez, at least two days huh?

We tried PD. Once. I found the water temp swings to be a bit much along with the trash. That's just me, it's not like there isn't plenty to see. No accounting for some diver's tastes, huh? (Good thing.)
Oh, bring some hard soled booties. It's shore diving and the lava rock beaches have not softened yet. // ww

Well, the way the Anilao drivers drive, I don't sleep much anyway.

But we are now up to at least two days in Tulamben, Wed just depends on when they can get us there, and if LIberty will take us right out. Th/Fri though we are ready for 2-3 dives.

Does LDR have boat diving? Always nicer to get two in the boat in the morning and a shore after lunch.

Hard soles, nice to know, I have the Japanese reef booties, they are pretty tough.

The dives they would take a boat for are reef dives which are nice for reef dives.
The boat will also be a local fishing boat, not a dive boat.
The shore dives are the best and macro focused. They will take you by truck and then do a shore entry. Nor all the shore entry's are rocky. And the guide will also help steady you on entry's and even shuttle your camera rig in if you need.
Let them know that you would like to dive shortly after arrival and they will set it up.
They really aim to please. Very good service in all ways and they have excellent guides.
