I must say this series of events has the makings for one heck of a good movie.

1. Trapped soccer team (during the World Cup of all times!). None can swim or dive!
2. Expert cave divers from the UK fly in and locate the boys.
3. International team of experts assembled including divers, geologists, engineers, etc. etc. who hauled in tons of gear and busted this out.
4. Farmers crying about flooded fields, but absolutely willing to lose a season of rice "for our boys".
5. Tragic loss of Thai Navy Seal Saman Kunan.
6. Triumphant rescue of the whole team!!!
7. Boys attend World Cup final (TBD)

Let's hope they do a good job with it and honor those who risked so muck to make this happen.

I don't want to see a movie, however I would pay money if they put together a documentary with news footage, and background of the actual rescuers.

Not about this particular event but this video gives you an idea what makes two of these guys tick. For me it was as interesting as terrifying. I wouldn't go in most of these caves if they were dry without freaking out.

They did so well - Kudos to the international team.

There's been a few digs at the Thai navy through this thread - comments like "accepting it was beyond their capabilities" type vibe I'd like to address. Soapbox. The Thais are very humble but incredibly resilient people - they got slammed by the Asian Tsunami and learned very important lessons about rescues being a controlled, methodical plan and have no need to admit they were incapable...they lived through the shambles of too many aid and NGO and "expert" groups with the best intentions tripping over each other. They (I'm guessing) would've approached the experts themselves with a request for help. The king provided food for the rescue teams. They played it beautifully respectfully moving the media away when crunch time came to protect everyone's privacy and let them focus on the seemingly impossible task ahead of them. The whole country seems to be celebrating their new heros from overseas as much as the local heros.

If anyone got to see the Aus news live feed where a journalist finally got to interview a guy who's job was looking topside for a way in I guess his answer to when she asked him how it felt to have them all safe summed it up perfectly...

He jumped in the air and sung a few bars from We are the World. Perfect. What a happy ending.

Anyone up for a bet on the nationality of the rescue divers (in the movie, that is)?

I like the earlier comment that likened it to an Apollo 13 moment. Tom Hanks has to play a role!

I think the Thai (the Land of Smiles) reality of this would be a huge smile alongside those tears.

One aspect that worries me now is if those boys' and coach's lives ahead will be adversely affected by what happens moving forward w.r.t. movie etc.

I hope some funds flow in the proper directions too. e.g. rescue organisations etc

OK, it might seem like I do not appreciate ordeal boys, their families and rescue personel went through.
Nothing is futher from the truth. When I first heard about it, my thought was: They're gone.
Boy, am I glad I was wrong.
Hearing stories like this make me feel proud of human race, among all the bad things we do to each other, we still seem to posess virtues of selfesness, courage and humanity.
To boys, good luck.
To rescuers, THANK YOU.
