Hi

I have read that steramine is used to sanitize the BCD bladder. I cannot find it in my country (Norway) and I am hoping someone know of a similar product I can use.

StarSan is available here but I don't know if it is recomended to use.

Thanks

Thomas

Steramine is used to sanitize rebreather bladders, and I do use that after every dive. But not for the BCD.

It'll smell nice too...

listerine isn't great for sanitizing stuff, doesn't kill all of the right things.
Starsan will work, but make sure you rinse it out well afterwards since it is acid based. Not really something you should have to do unless you plan on breathing through your BCD *highly NOT recommended*

Dettol is another product that some divers use to sanitize equipment. Dilute with water, as with other sanitizers.

I think the rebreather users' affinity for Steramine is because it doesn't need to be rinsed with clean water afterwards. Steramine is mainly used to sanitize glassware in bars and restaurants, and you just let the glasses drip dry after rinsing in the Steramine solution. I have used Star San for sanitizing stainless steel homebrew equipment, but not dive equipment. I agree with tbone that because it is acid, maybe you should rinse it out.

I see no need to sanitize a BC bladder, though.

If you're really desperate to sanitize the bladder you can use the CamelBak Sanitizing tabs. BCD bladders are made from the same polyurethane material as a CamelBak bladder and these tabs don't degrade the material and will make your BCD safe to drink from...lol
