I thought the plastic film was supposed to be removed before use, and then I scratched the screen on my very first dive with the new computer. Shucks! But A) the scratch is not visible underwater and B) thanks to the hints I've ordered two screen protector films from Dive Gear Express so hopefully I will not scratch it any longer.
I suspect the scratch will no longer disappear under water after a protector is put over the top of it. Can you confirm whether or not this is true?

Maybe clear nail polish to fill in the scratch before applying the protector?

no!

Just bought Pedix AI thought before I went on my first trip with it I would get a couple screen protectors and put one on before I left. Washed off the screen and was getting ready to take the new one off its backing and thought, well i better check scubaboard on the proper installation. And low an behold found this thread. Thanks everyone. Now i have 2 extras as I did not remove the factory installed one:). Thanks and I know for a fact I will love this computer. It is going top make my D4I into a nice back up computer.

Glad to see you so happy with your purchase. I believe over time, you will only become happier.

I actually bought this for my wife. Even though she has not used it yet either I don't think i will win the fight to keep it for myself. So probably buy another. I have a trip in 2 weeks to get used to it. Then she and i go to Bonaire in Dec. for 10 days and i bet i have another by then:)

I would just admit defeat and buy another without having the discussion - you know you will want it anyway!

I would suspect that many take off the screen protectors thinking they are a screen protector for shipping and is removed before use. I just go t my petrel back from the shearwater rep for battery compartment spring replacement and it came back with the protector film on it. It had a tab on the side to pull on for removal and i did remove it. Thinking was that if it was intended to stay on it would not have a tab to pull on. Anything brushing the tab would peel it off anyway. Much like getting a new watch with the chrystal protector it is removed after you take it out of the package. I have bought note pads with the same shipping screen protector on it. Then they sell a screen scratch protector to put ion its place.
