Raja Ampat, Indonesia. I spent Christmas & New Year there in a 12-day liveaboard trip. :)

The sea fan there is home for tiny (2-3 mm) pygmy seahorse, so bring your magnifying glasses or take a picture of it & blow it up in your computer screen afterwards to see it better.

Or get one of these Seawiscopes, but with the bungee correctly adjusted, unlike my initial photo...

Thanks for the tips. I add Red Sea to my bucket list. :)

BTW I'll be in Saudi Arabia for work related visit and planning to dive in Yanbu / Jeddah area (Red Sea side of Saudi Arabia) sometime in October. Is that a good timing, to be in Red Sea in October?
I'm pretty sure red sea is amazing all year around ;)

No matter where you go.....there you are.

I helped derail my own thread a bit, but let's get it back on track with another unpopular benign/non-polarizing opinion which I thought of earlier today...

I think it should be illegal to serve orange slices as a snack between dives!

I know tons of divers like them in tropical destinations. I suppose they could be refreshing & get rid of dry mouth. But I'm allergic, d*****!

So you are saying that I should not have nuts, fruits, meats, sugars, etc etc because somebody in the world could be allergic and might be on the boat. Now that is controversial, :-)

Oh, oops. I was really being tongue in cheek, but I can see how my statement could be taken a different way.

ok let's not go into the whole allergy thing...let me try again.

If I had to choose between:
  • A dive with great vis, but just ok marine life
    -and-
  • A dive with horrid vis & great marine life
Most of the time, I'd choose the dive with great vis, but just ok marine life.

Define horrid? I have been places where they thought 20 ft was horrid.

I'm with you on the oranges. Not because of allergies but because it brings back days of playing soccer and rugby and cricket and having those during breaks.

I prefer not to taint my dive trips with feelings of shame at my performance :)

I think I share the same feeling.... I love it all!!! Long flights, airline/airport food, overnights, domestic flights with hot landings, long drives with constant honking - swerving - braking, putting my camera/kit together, taking it apart... Hearing/Telling the same stories over and over again, diving with crappy divers, crazy currents, waiting for your gear to dry (while it rains because it always rains on the last day) so you can pack it up again! I even love the safety stop!!

The only thing I absolutely do not like are dives where you sit behind an imaginary or human built line to watch mantas. I am not a sit still kind of girl so I get bored after 5 minutes.
I hear you! While I'm not quite bored of Mantas, I'm bored stiff of lining up and hooking in to see sharks. I used to love diving with sharks but Many of the dives in The Maldives have pretty much cured me.
