Really??? You don't see a conflict of interest in recommending a product when you don't disclose that you work for the manufacturer of that product? Amazing...
No I don't, that's the difference between Cochran and other dive computer companies.
Jeff is a straight shooter and he wouldn't lose his job for telling the truth about our dive computers.
I'm sure most of the comments on post, many of you have never dove nor owned a Cochran dive computer.
By the way I just dove one of my Shearwater Perdix AI :canada: and I think it's a awesome computer, oh I hope I still have a job on Tuesday.
Have a great long weekend

@Dive Cochran, Mr Corso,

You should try to not shoot from the hip, you might shoot yourself in the foot. I commented on the potential conflict of interest. I have owned an EMC-14 since 2006 and occasionally still dive it, a nice computer. The interface, requiring licked fingers and a quarter, is still annoying. @tridacna owned and dived an EMC-16 and liked it. He also grew tired of the interface. I don't know about @Joneill.

The problem is not Cochran computers, the problem is the generally accepted standard for transparency and disclosing potential conflicts of interest. Disclosing a potential conflict of interest does not disqualify one's opinion, it simply allows others to know about the relationship. I believe that disclosing potential conflicts actually increases the credibility of the poster. Having worked for 13 years for a company on the Dow Jones 30, I am quite aware of larger company policies on disclosure of potential conflicts of interest.

Very best and good diving, Craig

Good for you - but to most reasonable people, making a recommendation for a product without disclosing that you are an employee of the company that makes that product is very disingenuous - even if the recommended product is good. It's called transparency - try it...

BTW - I don't see anyone dissing Cochran computers in this thread as you seem to insinuate... and...why would you get fired for complementing a competitor's computer - that is not the same as criticizing your own.

However, I do find it interestig that you work for Cochran, but appear to own a few Shearwaters - I guess you wanted AI and Cochran does not offer that? I own 2 Shearwaters myself (a Perdix AI and a Perdix) and would not ever consider anything else - to me, they are perfect DC's (though not for everyone due to cost).

Actually, Cochran has offered AI for quite a long time. The Gemini, and now the Lifeguard series

Ah...that is very interesting (and tells me all I need to know about Cochran DC's versus Shearwater o_O- though not that I ever really cared as I was just chiming in on the transparency issue). Thanks!

Craig,
I find it very interesting that a " Staff Member" of ScubaBoard is scrutinizing a reply. Another dive computer company that heavily advertise on ScubaBoard, one of their engineers make comments and recommendations on a daily basis.
Thank you for occasionally diving our dive computer since 2006 and at our next engineering meeting I will tell Mike Cochran who was last years recipient of the
Academy of Underwater Arts & Sciences 2016 NOGI award that that using a quarter or to wet your finger is still annoying.
Unlike many other members on ScubaBoard Jeff and I don't hide behind a pseudonym or alias.

Again have a great long weekend

I think the main issue is that Cochran has a proprietary algorithm where many of the variables are simply not known. Shearwater offers Buhlmann ZH-L16C where the variables are readily available.

Wow - way to dig a deeper hole! How, exactly were we supposed to know that Jeff works for Cochran? Your ID and signature clearly show you work for Cochran - his does not!

You seem to continue to mix up a simple request for transparency as a dig at Cochran, when no one has done that as far as I can see (well other than you admitting to diving Shearwater's )
.

...and that damn quarter. I never had an issue algorithmically. Just licking my fingers and the quarter. I still have the 16 but unlikely to use it again now that I'm diving a Perdix. I cannot overstate just how much a pain in the butt that was.

What is this whole "quarter" and "licking fingers" thing - sounds like a Monty Python sketch? Seriously though, what are you guys referring to?
