Bauer intermediate filter

Hi guys,
I just pulled out water separator from 2nd hand junior ii and found this.

Does anyone have an idea why this intermediate filter doesn't have usual components like long center screw, vortex, baffle cone and coalescer?

It just different version? Is it ok to use?

I don’t want to hog the compressor section (or argue) but it looks like your not getting too much in replies so here goes.

Bauer make compressors for other applications than scuba. Plastic bottle to plastic chair blowing and paintbal. Also gases at the low end of the market such as CNG and Nitrogen.

With these high RPM design blocks you get a high carry over of oil particulate interstage and in a dry gas application such as nitrogen this thick oil carryover and particles stick to the separator sintered filter cone prematurely blocking it.

Also as nitrogen is dry and non condensing gas it doesn’t really need an interstage water separator but the block is easier to build with one already fitted. So one design build fits all.

The pragmatic fix is to remove the filter cone and replace it with a simple baffle plate.
From the photo are you sure its not a Poseidon PE100 TE/TW or TB not a Bauer
or a Bauer so called paintball compressor they let loose on the paintball market only to find
the paint ball shops sold them to divers as they were cheaper. The silver paint over the gold coloured anodising is why I ask.

If its air your compressing for breathing then without the filter cone in the separator more water droplets than oil “carry over” into the chemical dehydrating tower. This make the filter chemical life shorter and cost more per fill per cylinder.

But that is not a problem from Bauers design perspective. If a design engineer saves just two dollar on the build components he has made his wages for the year. However If he “designed in” an additional running cost to the customer that adds an extra $50 to the customers running cost he makes the accounts director management wages as well.

As the block runs fast an hot anyway again an ever increasing design approach is to forget the interstage and combine the final stage with a filter/ separator combination filter tower. Not as good but a much cheaper to build and assemble in manufacturing components.
And importantly pushes the additional cost onto the customer running cost who frankly know very little about the products they buy or in some cases care. Iain

Just disassembled p0 tower found "NO BREATHING AIR" etching behind the sticker so now it makes sense.
Planning to swap out with normal one.

Its not easy to work out if paintball or N2 from your photos, without seeing a photo of the data plate and the complete compressor including the motor data plate.

But from the "not breathing air lable" and you stating its a Juniour II
My guess is it is more probable a Bauer Rifleman S-30

I hope my explanation why fit the baffle plate for paintball is understood OK but let me add.

Personally I wouldn't change the seperator I would leave it as is and with the money it costs you to replace I would buy a separate wall mounted filter with repack cartridge, non return valve, visual indicator and BPR. Again its a better solution and a more pragmatic use of your money.

You could even look at using the Bauer final chemical filter shell also as a separator, by filling it with say glass marbles and save using the ineffective but expensive S-30 chemical filter cartridge.

Photo below is another option (Built for the Rix S-730 ) it has all the parts you could possible require shown (inlet check valve, bleed valve, filter, visual indicator, Gauge, BPR, outlet)
Apart from the charging whips, you just need a slightly longer filter tower for the Bauer S-30

Other parts seems identical other then water separator.
Just swap out water separator from other junk bauer compressor so it should be ok.
P0 filter will packed only with 13x and after that adding 33inch filter tower with pmv set 150bar, micron filter plus etc... This is same setup my Ocenus.
Still don't understand why Bauer used cheap rusty steel fitting everywhere.
