Hi. I will ask around the DUI office and see if I can find any more information on this subject.

Thank you,

Kathy

I can't fathom a time this would be important to me. I just added Keyless Entry to my Transit so I can leave the Key on the Shore.

Spoke with Dan in our engineering department. He suggested the DUI canister and plug the 4 ports on the top. We have the plugs. The canister would hold a lot of stuff and should be fair priced. Inside of canniser is 2.5" x 3.75" x 11". The 2.5 and 3.5" are rounded like ( ).

The question would be how many divers would be interested in something like this?

Thank you -

Kathy

Just pick up an older can light off craiglist or ebay. Most people don't want anything bigger than a slimline can anymore. I'm not sure of the dimensions of a PLB, but the last older Dive Rite can I acquired was somewhere around 3.5" in diameter.

Plug the hole and your on your way

Thanks Kathy, that's what I was thinking about. Although I'm not sure there's a huge market for it, there definitely is desire within the PLB circle. Right now the "higher end" PLB canisters seems to be in the $200-$250 range, which seems oddly inflated to me given how simple it should be. I mean if I can pick up a new diving flashlight that's rated to 200 feet for $49 (and just remove the batteries for an odd looking container), it would seem someone could create a "blank" canister that would do the same for not too much more. A couple of manufacturers have created canisters for ~$100, so I think the desire is out there. The folks at Light Monkey have certainly heard the call for a "blank" canister to keep items dry at depth and have made some for folks that requested them.

Anyway, if you could PM me (or put it here if you want) any further info, specifically what you consider fair priced, that would be helpful. FWIW, the PLB I use is 1.6" x 1.9" x 4.5", so that canister would obviously be plenty big. :)

Hi, someone told me that OMS used to make a diving "canister" which was essentially a clear polycarbonate tube with end caps and O-rings to keep water out and the items inside dry. Do you know if OMS or DUI still make some sort of diving canister that could be used to carry (and keep dry) items to depth, such as a PLB or other life-saving devices? I know there are a few manufacturers that make a PLB canister for diving, but I think it should be simpler than that, similar to the picture of the OMS "tube" I saw on the internet.

Thanks!

I realise this thread is 4 years old.
We have one of the OMS canisters. I think it was rated to 100m but need to check. Dies anyone know?
