Dive shop in the Keys once asked to show them my highest level of certification card. So I handed them my NACD Full Cave card with Wakulla award sticker instead of my NAUI Instructor card.
It is an interesting question, isn't it? Get enough certifications, and it would be a great debate to determine which is the highest. If a cave card is higher than an instructor card (and I think it is), is a cave DPV certification higher, since you can't get it without at least 50 cave dives? Where does a trimix card fit into the mix?

That almost sounds like the time I was pulled over for speeding and the LEO said he pulled me over for flying down the highway and asked to see my license so I handed him my FAA Pilots license, he got a laugh out of it and let me go with a verbal warning.

I was once refused service in Maui when I provided a NAUI Instructor card ... the man told me they only accepted PADI cards. I walked across the street and got on a boat with his competitor. Apparently business is so good in Maui that you can be that specific ...

I remember you mention this a few years ago. I also recall you mentioning that you were refused service due to not having a "log book" with you so "they" could confirm your dive experience. There is a question on a quiz about log books in the PADI Open Water course; I use your experience as additional info for that question. :)

We do very few dives through shops, usually just tank rentals and shore dives. Last trip the shop was happy to see any card to rent us tanks. Sometimes we get asked and sometimes we don't.

We did choose to do a boat dive. We were shore diving just down the street from the shop that offered the dive we wanted to do. During our SI we stopped by the shop to set up the trip, still half dressed in our wetsuits. They asked about out certs and "last dive", looking at my watch said 15 minutes ago. They never even asked for cards.

I have never been asked for a log book, again limited in the type of diving we do. In theory I understand, but also it is something so easy to fake it seems pointless to me.

I usually bring my CCR instructor card, my AN/DP cards and my solo card. I rarely dive with a buddy at all unless it's my wife or a select few divers I know. No one has asked me to buddy with anyone for a long time, so I can do so if I want to or I can just wander aimlessly on my own.

I do like showing my OW card from 1985 at times.

No, the log book incident wasn't me. I don't recall ever having been asked for my dive log before. I still keep one (at nearly 3800 dives), but it's strictly for my personal use.
