I just found out that I am going diving on Sunday. My daughter has scheduled a snorkel dive trip with her friend to FT W. I am hoping the dive conditions warrant the driving involved. Has anyone been up there in the last couple of days or been talking with anyone about conditions?
Rich I'm planning to dive there this AM. I'll either post or call you post dive. Maybe I'll do both.
Didn't make the dive. The cuff on my dry suit ripped so no dive. My wife went snorkeling told me it was a few feet of vis. I talked to a few divers coming out and they all told me about six foot vis.
Hi guys! Happy to see this thread, I'm hoping to get some more RI dives in this summer as I've got zero dive vacations planned. What are the water temps like?
Dove the Idene wreck off of Block Island on Friday night, 17 June and the bottom temperature was 46 F at 92' depth with 53 F surface temperature. On Saturday, 18 June dove Van Zandt pier in Newport and the bottom temperature was 59 F at 21' depth with surface temperature of 64 F. Later in the afternoon of Saturday, 18 June, dove King's Beach in Newport and the bottom temperature was 56 F at 43' depth with a surface temperature of 59 F. And BTW, all the dives were fabulous with calm seas and good visibilities.

Any time Faith just give me a call. SucbaGypsy has the temps dead on. I'm still using my 2mm hooded vest under my 7 MM farmer John bottoms with the 7mm jacket over it all.
I dove Fort Wetherill sunday evening. 10 feet of vis with a 58 degree bottom temp at 29 feet. I was wearing a 5/7mm with a hood and gloves and was perfectly warm!
FTW is actually in Narragansett Bay. It seldom has stellar visibility, but it does have ease of access and familiarity. Other spots like Kings Beach are have better visibility but when they are no good FTW will still be divable.
