I'm still happy as hell with my Predator. Would be content with another or petrel 1.

I've got 2 Predators. I'm gonna hold onto them until they can't fix them anymore.

So first dive with the Perdix. Operating the buttons underwater, with my smurf-blue dry gloves, proved as easy as with the Petrel. While the screen is a bit smaller, it doesn't pose any issue and is very easy to read, as with the Petrel. The unit has a considerably lower profile on your forearm than the Petrel. It did automatically turn on. There have been a few times that the Petrel has turned off during my surface swim. During my ascent from 100ft, it did suggest that I switch to 50%. I mistakenly left it active, although I had only brought 32%. The timer function works really well and only takes a few pushes of the button. Not as easy as Tec 2/3G but it's nice to finally have a timer, when putting the unit in dive computer mode instead of gauge mode.

Is this a worthy successor to the Petrel/Petrel2? Absolutely.
Is it revolutionary over the Petrel/Petrel2? NO!
Do I regret selling the Petrel in favor of the Perdix? NO!
Do I like the Perdix over the Petrel/Petrel2? Yes!!!!

What do you mean?
The Petrels do not automatically turn on when immersed in water. They will turn off after moments of inactivity. I have a fairly long surface swim, before I submerge. My Petrel has turned off during the surface swim. I've turned it on as I was descending. Perdix just turned on during the descent.

My Petrel 2 doesn't turn on automatically when immersed in water, but turns on automatically when it gets to about 8-12 ft submerged if I don't turn it on at the surface. Once you ascend, you can configure how long after you surface until it considers the dive to end (so surfacing to look around and descending can count as the same dive), as well as being able to configure how long after a dive ends before it automatically turns off. There are several settings you can change from the defaults to suit your diving style

After looking at the specs for the Perdix, I see absolutely no reason to be lusting after it after getting a Petrel 2 for Christmas two years ago. The main differences seem to be size (I'm willing to trade size for a slightly larger screen), and battery life, which has not been an issue at all with my Petrel 2. It's a fantastic dive computer and has way more capabilities than I will ever be qualified to use, but still simple enough for recreational diving

From v29 firmware manual for the petrel:
CHANGE:
Automatically turns on the unit when the absolute ambient pressure is greater than 1100 mbar (previously was 1300 mbar). Result is faster auto-on when dive starts with Petrel turned-off.

The amount of time before a dive is ended can be changes. When I teach I have it set for 10 minutes. I can also end the dive earlier.
