Does anybody have a suggestion for legal consul when visiting Cozumel. Last time I was there I spent half a day in jail because somebody rear ended me. I'd like to contact someone ahead of time that is English speaking on the island in the case of future issues.

Nice!

I will give you two: Gretchen Martin +52 (987) 113 0217 heisel@prodigy.net.mx She did our immigration stuff. She is quick to respond and very nice.

Second: Gisela Rodriguez Gonzalez gisela@cozumellawyer.com +52 (984) 1792515 and (541) 603-0698 USA She did my real estate stuff.

I think both could get the job done. What you REALLY need is a good insurance guy or rental guy.

Candiru, where were you 4 - 6 weeks ago when there was a long discussion about rental cars, insurance, liability, jail and ect? Your first hand experience would have been meaningful and useful.

Sorry it happened to you.

Anything about the experience you'd care to share?

The Chief is right, picking the right rental company and having to he proper insurance is essential. My husband had an accident where he was at fault. The local man he hit broke his collarbone and his motercycle was damaged. Margarita at Isis came to the police station and resolved the issue in an hour. No time in jail, no lawyer needed. The only out of pocket he had was the $50 or so he paid for the traffic violation. That level of service has made us forever loyal to Rentadora Isis.

Even if you aren't REALLY at fault, you may just end up being found at fault. MX has the gringo pays rule....
All the more reason for good insurance and a local car rental agency!

We rented from rentadora Isis but still had to pay the Dedectabile which was high. It was total bull**** the guy hit me and fled. Yet in the end he was not at fault. He was abviously texting and rear ended me. At least he had he curtousy to ask if I was okay before he took off. In the end they said I had to settle otherwise I would have to stay overnight in jail.

Did they catch him?

Did anyone from Isis come to your aid...??
