Do It Right.

Right. A back plate is the absolutely wrong piece of equipment for certain types of diving (sump diving). Hence, GUE would be the neutral and appropriate term for a certain equipment configuration & procedures. Besides, give credit to the organization that deserves it. It's about time to forget absolute truths.

You'd have to create a second one to cover UTD I guess.

What about people (like me) who dive that way... but don't have any GUE certs?

Maybe we coukd have a DIR-NOS (Not otherwise specified) subforum?

:shocked2:

Except of course, GUE is a smaller subset of DIR. DIR came first, and is not a training agency.
I think if you want a GUE forum, it would be easy to make one....Also, we should always avoid Political Correctness and Revisionism.

I disagree. DIR is much more than GUE, and was around long before GUE. GUE possibly could get their own forum. There are many people who claim to be DIR, but who definitely are not GUE trained. One does not have to be GUE trained to be DIR.

Ha ha maybe if the got rid of the bakers dozen reasons why not to use a computer

You are taking the name of something too literately. It is just a naming convention. Much the same "Ultimate" Driving Machine, even "Global" Underwater Explorer .... just get over it.
In fairness, BMW may have been the ultimate driving machine prior to the introduction of Tesla automobiles.

I consider myself a DIR practitioner but I dive in a sidemount configuration in open water which is counter to the GUE philosophy.

OK, good points, I understand.
(still dont like the acronym but having both GUE, UTD and HOG, ... would be a pain)
