Hi All,

I'm hoping you can guide me a bit. My wife and I are doing a Caribbean holiday with her family around the beginning of September. We are going to add another week diving somewhere nearby. It is looking like Rivera Maya for the family bit and Cozumel for the 'us' bit. My wife has high standards in hotels/resorts. I want to go to Blue angel or SCC, but she is more 5 star (and possibly) all inclusive. What options do we have?

It looks like the Palace and Intercontinental are the usual high end hotels from the searches I get here. Any other choices, possibly boutique or similar that are at the upper end of the 'nice' spectrum?

A 'beach' would be a requirement, so downtown doesn't work.

I'll book diving separately, so it doesn't matter if the hotel's operator isn't great. Though if the hotel has a great operation then all the better.

thanks,
rick

Not sure I'd rate properties in Cozumel as 5-Star. In Cancun you have places like Le Blanc and Moon Palace with true butler 5-Star service. Same goes for some places on the Mayan Riviera. In Coz, I have stayed at the Aura and place it at a 4 to 4.5. Have not stayed at the Intercontinental but reported to be a solid property, probably 4-Star. I liked the Aura because it was a smaller property. For a 3 to 4 star, the Occidental is not a bad property, clean, great people, nice pools, good food, good dive op.

Rent a condo at the El Cantil. Go out to eat or have a cook come in.
Do the diving ala carte.

I'm another who wouldn't rate ANY as a full 5 star resort but the Palace is the highest rated AI & the Presidente the highest rated non AI. IF a beach is absolutely necessary you may have to lower her standards & choose between Iberostar & the Grand or the Aura. Water entry at the Iberostar & Aura is rocky but they have a nice sand beach above the waterline.

If you want a beach, and top notch service, with some access to the real fun of Cozumel, The Intercontinental Presidente is by far the best choice. That was my suggestion 23 years ago and it still is. Get a Reef Room.

That won't work for what she wants. Completely not the type of holiday we are looking for.

Thanks for all of the replies gents. You are confirming what i was getting through searches.

I like the Melia on the north end. I'm just not a south end guy. More restful and also closer to town.

I also agree with Dave and cicipo that the best fit for your requirements is the Presidente Intercontinental.
