It will always be UTC-5 hours. Eastern time zone when the US is on standard time. Central time zone when the US is on daylight saving time.

When you get off the plane, check a clock and adjust your watch.
Well, some travelers plan activities for arrival day, hoping the plane lands on schedule. Check "Cozumel time" on your computer the day of travel.

Cruisers whose boats stay on home port time will need to be more careful integrating Coz time to their plans.

To really confuse all on this board: Quintana Roo is not going to the Eastern Time zone, more like a modified Central Time zone that is permanently on DST. Since this is Mexico this info may be changed at anytime. We have been notified by the authorities to change our clocks on 01FEB15 by moving them ahead one hour. This will be the last time we will ever have to this.
Ok, so they are moving ahead one hour, then no more changes - for now.

So are they going to change to Eastern time, then no changes at DST - realining with Central during DST? One hour later sunrises & sunsets both but no changes for summers?

I completely understood until you explained it?

LOL .... DD has it correct I believe ..... come Feb 1st, Coz will move from CST to EST. But when Daylight Savings Time kicks in on March 8th (in the US) Cozumel will not follow, putting them an hour behind EST, back lined up with CST in the US. So if they stick to this plan, they'll line up with EST (in the US) from November to March, and CST (in the US)from March to November.

Clear as mud, right?? :D

I am totally confused....sheesh.

We are going to be arriving on a cruise ship first week of March (yes, we are doing a cruise for various reasons instead of land-based this time), and coming out of Galveston. Our arrival ship time is 10am. So does that mean it will actually be 11am in Cozumel? I guess that means afternoon dives for us for sure. My brain hurts.

Well when EST goes to DST it isn't EST anymore is it? It is then EDT. So when EST goes to EDT, then Coz time stays on EST, which is also CDT, but never CST, Coz is STILL EST?

Screw it, I am taking my watch off before the plane lands.

Expensive choice. American is much cheaper, but I know you want to fly non-stop. Air Canada is showing Dep: 5:10 pm, Arr: 11:00 pm in March Czm-Yyz, altho they may not have loaded the time changes yet. At any rate, Air Canada won't change their flights. The clock will just be different in Mexico.

The flight last March left CZM around 9pm, 3.5hr flight + 2 hrs for the time change = 2:45. At least it's a decent looking flight. Finally.

I was quite surprised at how busy the airport was at 3 in the morning.

All I need to know is that in May when I go, it's the same as it ever was.

Yes, I believe that's right. Your ship will remain on Central time while Cozumel will be aligned with Eastern time, as long as your arrive in Coz before the March 8 DSavingsT change. How your barge handles DST change that might happen during a voyage is unknown to me.

All I need to know is that in May when I go, it's the same as it ever was.
Yeah, Austin will be on CDaylightT by then, with the same clock as Coz on EStandardT.

dum, dum, DUM (<<impressive theme music) Got this today:

Did you know that you’ll enjoy an extra hour of daylight in the evening during your upcoming trip to Cancún?

The state of Quintana Roo in Mexico, which includes Cancún, recently confirmed that they will change to a new time zone during the winter season, February 1 – April 4, 2015.

The newly approved time zone for the state of Quintana Roo will be the equivalent of U.S. Eastern Time and will take effect at 2:00am on February 1, 2015 when the state will set its clocks ahead 1 hour to 3:00am.

What does this mean for your upcoming trip with Southwest Airlines®?

 • Domestic U.S. departure, arrival, and connection times to/from Cancún will NOT change.
 • Local Cancún arrival and departure times WILL change to 1 hour later than originally scheduled to reflect the new Quintana Roo time zone.
 • You WILL receive an automatic re-accommodation email by January 30th reflecting the new Cancún local times of your flights.
 • This will NOT affect EarlyBird® or any other upgrade product that you have already purchased.
Once again, your domestic U.S. departure and arrival times will not change.

Absolutely no action is required by you; simply get ready to enjoy your trip with Southwest®.

Regards,
Southwest Airlines
