So, does anyone have any new place to recommend that hasn't already been mentioned in this thread? I'm particularly interested in hearing anyone's experiences with Costillas Billy on 65a near Calle 19.
I will let you know in a few days. My sister-in-law says a pretty outstanding new place opened on 11av run by the same people with the juice/sandwich stand between calle 10 and 15. Evenings. Plastic chairs; one big table.

The lists above, along with Christi's lists would make a great sticky. Not sure how that happens, but I will leave the details to the magic of the internet. (or MMM)
Restaurants come and go so frequently that they would rapidly be out of date. And I think stickies should be for factual matters, not opinions which nearly all restaurant comments are. And if they were a sticky, think about how little there would be to talk about and how that would affect this site's Google ratings! :D

Is this the place run by the folks who used to work at Sabores before it closed? I thought that stopped after the former owners of The French Quarter sold the building. Is the menu still like the old Sabores menu?

That is my understanding. I was just there in May. I would say the menu is expanded a good bit. I glanced at it but I always just listenedto what they tell me are the comida de dia and pick one. They do the soup to start and all that. Their habenero is nice and hot. Jamaica to drink and all. (and cerversa..... :) )

I'm with MMM in thinking the information changes too rapidly to keep it up-to-date on multiple websites. I do my best to keep it updated on my website, but I've just noticed several dead links.

Dining - Casa Suzana

My wife and I tried a place called La Antigua. It was just down around the corner from the Aldora shop. Two Ladies run it out of a home. has about a half dozen tables in the dining room. We had fish in garlic sauce and it was really good. The best part was when we walked in we were the only people there and when she told us to pick any table we looked into the room and it had a large window with the shutters open no glass and standing on his hind legs looking in at us was a black lab with a very hopeful look on his face! Wish I had brought my camera with me!

The OP wants "Off the Beaten Path"

OK.. How about....

1-The burger place on Avenida 5, between calle 3 and 5.. This is just a little stand. Two guys grilling on charcoal.. Hope they are still there in July..
The burgers are grilled as you wait, and be prepared for a wait...however, soooo well worth it. I think the price is around $5.00 USD for a nice sized burger.. There are some plastic tables to sit at, or Take Out

2-los chilango's on AVE 10 | between calle19 south and Xel Ha (calle 15 south), this is a concina economica..open around noon until maybe 5ish? Go in, sit down, order from the chalkboard menu on the wall or point to someone's entree and say you want that. You will then be given a Mystery soup, a mystery juice and then served your entree which includes rice...I get the breaded chicken cutlet which is the size of a dinner plate. The price is around $6.00 USD.

3-Asadero El Pollo-Avenida 30 between Calle 3 and Morelos . A whole, grilled chicken, cut up. A baggie of rice, salsa, and tortilla's. The price is around $9.00 USD. Take out

4-La casita de Indo333...Rosada Salas, between Avenida 5 & 10. Hope it still there in July and hope they still have BBQ night...Yummy. Sit down on sidewalk or take out.

5-Blue Angel Restaurant Located adjacent to the Blue Angel Resort. On Melgar, south of town. One short flight of stairs up to a beautiful view. Sit down, relax, enjoy !

La Perlita: way the heck back tenth avenue. They are supposed to have GREAT seafood. I wouldn't know as all I get there is LIONFISH. Yum. You gotta eat that and do a nice thing for the reef at least once. Thursdays, 2X1 lionfish.
Woo hoo! I was wondering whether La Perlita still did the Thursday two-fer. It's now on my calendar for July 24!
Does anyone know a good place for fish tacos? I'm staying at the Bahia but can walk anywhere.

22 Years later, La Choza is still the best.

Places I always eat when in Coz:

Guido's... Sometimes twice in a trip. I love this place. Great for a group. : Guido's Restaurant, Cozumel Mexico

Casa Mission... Great for accommodating groups. : La Mission Cozumel Restaurant | The best Restaurant of mexican and seafood in Cozumel

Al Pie del Carbon... Argentinian Steak House & Seafood. : http://www.facebook.com/pages/Steak-House-AL-PIE-DEL-CARBON/194704847283399

Los Sera's Tacos & Pizza... Late nite street food open 'till 5am : http://foursquare.com/v/los-seras/4c2c1b4db34ad13ad7edeace

Some will say not off the beaten path but for me everything off Cozumel Palace Hotel is off the beaten path. It is all inclusive yet I go to these places because they are that good.

Hope this helps.

Does anyone know a good place for fish tacos?

I listed a couple upthread. My personal favorite is El Camarón Dorado. Camilo's is good as well. You can also get fried fish at a number of places (such as Pescadería San Carlos) and make your own tacos with the supplied tortillas. Cozumel doesn't have any places that I know of that do Baja-style fish tacos. Around here, it's typically a smear of black beans, cut up fried or grilled fish filet, and pickled pink onions with a dab of mayonnaise on a corn tortilla.

I will always love La Choza, where I had my first meal on the island. At times it's completely filled with tourists. At others, it's completely filled with locals. I don't care how touristy it may have become, it's good food, good staff, and clearly popular with locals. The comida del día is always great. It's where we take anyone who has any trepidation about getting killed to death by dangerous Mexican food until they die from it, because once they enter you can watch them visibly relax, and by the time we leave they're always going on about returning.
