I think it has a special coat on it to keep it scratch resistant. Other than that it's the same thing underneath.

That's what I figured. Just wasn't sure if it did anything fancy to justify the $275 price difference.

Either way, I love my SP regs and I'm sure you'll be quite happy with them.

Wow, where did you see that reg for so much cheaper?? Without the coat anyway. I looked all over the place but they all had the same price for the chrome one.

Wow, that is pricey. Can you elaborate why this type of reg is better than a less expensive, yet functional model would be? Just curious.

Scubapro regs last forever. I know a couple people that have been diving with theirs for 20+ years. Why this "black tech" reg justifies a $275 cost difference than the one without the protective coating I have no clue. I think it looks cooler, but that's about it as I don't see anything documented that shows better performance. Then again, I dive the cheaper MK17/g250v because I think it's a better all around reg (piston vs diaphragm) so I don't understand the higher price on the MK25 in the first place aside from the swivel turret, but that's just me.

It's not. Plenty of regs will match the performance. Some for half the price. The black coating will last until it won't. Still brass underneath. Will still scratch like any other reg.

I think #1 it's a scubapro so everything they have is pricey. I know from experience in general that I tend to get what I pay for which is why I wasn't worried about spending a little extra for the peace of mind. To top it off I've been down with some cheaper regs and I just have a harder time breathing with them.

Believe me, I would have gone cheaper, but I heard too many good things about the mk 25 and when I found this discontinued model that's hard to find for 42% off the price I figured shoot, what the heck lol.

Phork, just curious, where are you seeing the 275 price diff on this model? I'll return this one for that kinda price diff. Just to give you an idea, if I were to buy this model local without the black coating I would be paying around 1100 usd.
