I agree with diver 85. In an out of air situation, your buddy gets your primary reg. You use the secondary which is hanging on your neck. I have mine on a strap with a quick release clip. It holds securley, but if pulled with a medium amount of force, breaks free.

Geax Tigers!!! 1985 alum here..

And there we go, we've now told this diver he is wrong and should order new hoses.

This wasn't a debate about long hose people. I prefer the long hose, but it's not for everyone.

WTHeck are you talking 'bout??.......Where was long hose mentioned in that post you quoted???.......Pray tell me what I missed?????

Keep it simple, straightforward, and as standardized as possible.
Ay-men!

The simplest octo holder out there happens to also be the least expensive and easiest to use ...

I beg to differ ;)

Around here, SOP for stowing the octo is to bend the hose double close to the reg and the stuff the hose loop (only the loop!) through the right shoulder D-ring. A quick yank on the octo is enough to pull it out for deployment, it's secure enough to not fall out too often, it's reasonably easy to stow again after deploying it for a drill and it's totally free since the D-ring is already installed on your BCD.

If there are any downsides to that solution (except the standard Scubaboard reply "get a bungee necklace" ;) ), I'd love to hear them.

We fin the magnetic octo clip holders to work well.

If the magnet is strong enough to secure the octo, wouldn't it also be strong enough to affect a compass?

If your compass is right next to your octo while you're using it maybe. I have one and don't see any effect from mine. They're handy but I'm still trying to find a better way of dealing with the octo as there's still a lot of hose flapping around. Might end up going bungee and a 5ft primary or something

Don't worry. The buddy in need will yank the regulator from your mouth, and then you, having just exhaled and lost your mask, will try to unclip the octo using your thick gloves.

Used bicycle inner tire tube can be cut in small loops using scissors. Use these to attach the boltsnap. These break.

If you are rich, get one of these: Go Side Mount Shop. Break Away Connector + Bolt Snap
I'm using those with by beloved tooth brush (Miflex).

... I took it from the OP's initial comments that approach is what he's trying to get away from ...

After never really having a proper octopus holder (always had been looped in a d ring) and speaking to a dm, who said that because i have milfix, it's not good to have double back on itself.

I like the look of this. can't see any downsides. if i have time to give the octo out i can unclip and if in panic it will simply break away.

Ah, OK.
