Just keep titan, its a good reg, have it tuned properly.

if you still decide to go with a new reg get a diaphragm based 1st stage (which your titan is) as those are less finicky in subfreezing surface conditions.

thanks linedog currently i dive with an older aqualung titan reg ,the one i bought when i started diving,.. it still works good but def need to upgrade im sure once i breathe though a newer and better reg ill be wondering how i ever made it this long with the old one

I prefer sealed diaphragm overbalanced 1st stages with pneumatically balanced 2nd stages.

A lot of regulators fit the bill for this.

I went with Apeks.

I have to agree with some of the rest, if you think there are significantly better breathing regulators than the Titan you are mistaken. Now it may be true that yours needs a good tuneup by someone who knows what they are doing and actually cares but that is not the fault of the reg. What you have to understand about regulators is 99% of the performance of the reg is detemined by the second stage alone and since you already have one of the best, most time proven designs ever made made in the first stage, changing it is a waste of money. That said, if you really want to "upgrade' and I use the term loosely, just buy a new second stage, one of the HOGs for example. It will save you a lot of cash and you will get just as much improvement (if any) as buying a complete new reg.

Just to be clear are you talking about the Titan (non-balanced) or the Titan LX (balanced)?

if you want a different one and get OCD about it like I do. Get something used for a deal. That way if you don't like it, you can recoup almost all your $ back and try again or stick with what you've got

thanks a lot guys definately helpful

well i was talking with my lds and i think im going with and apex xtx40 reg and octo

If you had a Titan XL you already had one of the top performing regulators ever made. It rated superior on ANSTI testing and is the performance equal of your new regulator.

Good luck.

Hey Nemrod
Do you mean the Titan XL or LX? Both perfectly good regs but the LX is actually the older (2009) style balanced legend second stage on the new Titan first- it's the better of the two IMO!

Keep and tune what you got. They are quality gear. If need upgrade. Go Atomic (any model), learn how to serve them well or factory service and you will never look back.

when i told him what i was looking for that i wanted a cold water reg that i can grow with and eventually be able to use nitrox with and possibly wreck diving in the future and that i was looking at possibly the titan lx supreme he told me the apex line was just as good that the xtx40 was a slight better breather than the titan lx supreme and an all around great reg and them being owned by aqualung had great cust. service and parts avail. and the price for the reg and octo was good about 460 and change
