What about using bungee for holding the inflator in place? Or as a loop on a can light? Or to hold an Argon bottle in place? If all the rubber inner tubes break for holding backup lights, bungee works great to hold them. Or are those considered loose ends?
Improvisation rather than being a integral part of the system(except on some wings).
Can't say the same on SM.

So are inner tubes both bike and vehicle also improvisation? Seems they also have many uses...errr repairs that seem to be permanent.

I am not buying it and have bungee as part of my kit, since it is my preferred method. Use what you want since we are allowed to be individuals. My GUE instructors had no problems with bungee any where on my kit and in fact only allow it for the bungeed backup regulator.

I go through a lot of bungee cord. Mostly 1/8ths and 1/16ths. I use a lot of it for customer regs and BPW's.

It works, is cheap (unless you start buying 100 ft quantities like I just had to), and it lasts. I make d rings out of it for BPW inflator hoses and instead of zip ties run a chain stitch through the part under the webbing with waterproof nylon thread. I was actually nicked by a zip tie edge on one of my rigs. I thought I had melted it enough to smooth it down but somehow and edge found it's way on to it.

You can do a lot with it. I also have some 1/4 inch and 3/8 inch stuff for SM bungees as well.

I also keep a bunch of surgical tubing handy. I have decided that I am going to start using bungee on some of my rigs as the inner tube fails. Don't have to unthread the harness to replace and does the same thing. Might even be easier to manipulate when re-stowing a light.

O rings work well too, are a little stronger than bungee, but you have to undo the harness to replace them.

Of course you are more than welcome to use whatever you prefer. But how many bc(BP/W or jacket etc) manufacturers will sell you a length of rubber tubing and suggested its applications? OMS will but only for the wing.
You can buy the readily made necklace for the octo but most divers prefer DIY because of the fit and cost. I used surgical tube first but because of the cost I switched to bungee.
