I was kinda just wondering, what is the average decompression time for the majority of the dives you guys do (tech dives). As well as the longest deco time you have successfully completed. what do you normally think about / do when the stops are substantially long.

i have not completed a Adv. EANx/ Desat. yet :cool2:, but during NDL ascents from "deep" sites with multiple stop i kinda always zone out or just take in the view. Though on really rough days i wonder how anyone gets through any substantial deco obligation when the current is blowing like crazy. My tech instructor said drift deco helps with that. She also mentioned that in caves she will normally have favorite little spots to do deco where she kinda just sits at and chills till the stop is done.

so pretty much im kinda interested in knowing about the experience of just sitting there doing nothing but minding the dive plan and your thoughts.

The longest deco I've done was about an hour, but it wasn't planned that way. We planned a half hour and dove that plan; but when we got to our 20 foot stop, the reef we were on was so beautiful, we just all decided to swim back to the boat underwater, instead of surfacing and having the RIB pick us up.

I always TRY to do my deco somewhere where there is something (besides my buddies, who I like quite well but don't really enjoy staring at for ages) to see. Where that isn't possible, I spend my deco time thinking about how cold my hands are, or fretting about my buoyancy control.

I don't like deco.

Somewhere in the 90 minute range is probably my longest hang, 45-60 minutes is more common. Though 10 minutes on 80% to clean up an overstayed rec dive in the 130' range is pretty common, too. Drifting is best avoided IMO, but you need to be able to do it. Having a jon line does wonders for the current thing.

Longest deco was just this past trip to Truk last month, on the HIJMS Oite Destroyer --40 minutes bottom time at 60m ave depth on 20/20 trimix; with 10 min total of deep stops, 40 min at 50% deco gas switch 20m to 6m depths, and 40 min with a 10min:5min min Oxygen on:Oxygen off (backgas break) cycle. Final ascent of 0.5m/min to the surface breathing O2 from 6 meters. Usually have curious Batfish and a few Reef sharks keeping company during the long deco stops. Used twin 11L tanks (double AL80's) for 20/20 backgas, a 11L stage tank of 20/20, with 11L deco tanks for 50% and 100% O2.

Most of my deep wreck/tech deco dives in Truk are 30 to 40 minutes bottom time at depth ranges of 40 to 50 meters, and 30 to 40 minutes of deco.

I'm a deco wimp. 30 min is the longest deco I've had after switching to 02. I average 10-15 min usually. I don't like doing much more than that because in cave diving the deco stops get boring very quickly. One can only play with the fish for so long if there are any fish to be found. :-)

You're going to get all sorts of answers here depending on where people dive and what depths they have to venture to in order to see what's there. 2 hours of deco is a long time imo. I've done it and I'm sure I'll do it again, but 2 hours is a long time. More than that would be hard to talk me into.

Yea, i know that ill get alot of different stuff. Its kinda what i wanted to see though, anything from the occasional deco diver to Helium crazed underwater explorers. ;) would love to hear from all of them.

2 hours seems pretty intense BTW... what where you doing if i may ask?

More like deep air crazed with Helium & Oxygen costs at $2.95/cuft & $0.93/cuft respectively in Truk Lagoon:

Standard Gas bottom mix fills for one set of Double AL80's:
21/35 $205
18/45 $260
15/55 $310

(For the Bikini, the gas costs were $5.70/cuft and $1.70/cuft for He & O2)

:/ dont even go there..... makes me not want to consider OC Trimix for anything ever.... period. hopefully one day a rebreather just rolls on to my hands some how. should probably start look for a sugar momma to get married to.

Total dive time of 60-70 mins is enough for me ie. 40mins max for deco.
Deco on a reef is fine but not on a deco bar with only my buddies to admire at.
