I think it's pretty hard to beat the standard yellow polypropylene for tow flag line, probably the reason it is standard.
Yellow making it more visible than most other lines and the poly is less likely to tangle than other lines. I tried a reel
one time and ended up going back to the standard styrofoam ball and flag with yellow line and the yellow handle.
DD, yeah the viz was probably better than the 25 I mentioned. At one point I glanced over toward my buddy who had strayed
just a bit and the overhead light from topside created a pretty cool silhouette of her gliding above some structure. Wish I had
the camera at that time !
I could definitely see lights from divers 75 ft plus away... As for the best line to use for towing a float... I have been using kevlar kite surfing line on a reel. It has like 600 lb test and is bright yellow and has very good abrasion resistance. Much more expensive than cheap polyline, but i have probably 350-400 feet on a reel and deploy most all of it when diving deep (not at the bridge).
This is red, i have yellow...
