Nice, that does it. I'm going to have to combine Raja with Lembeh. We are talking bucket list quality stuff here. Thanks

Farsidefan1 I guess you need to compare bunaken with the wide angle in raja.
I saw wobbegongs and eupalette sharks not aware this combination can be seen anywhere else than Australia
But for sharks and schooling fish bunaken might have better wiz? There was a guy on the boat going to lembeh right after would be interesting to compare his notes

I have an S95 and a Canon DC38 case and the results are nowhere close to your pictures. Great job. Tried to get a pic of the pygmy seahorses with my setup and was virtually impossible. Need to look for a dummies guide to upgrading my setup.

The Pygmy seahorse pictures are taken with two diopters total power +12
and I want to stress those on Flickr are not cropped

With such tiny subjects even the S95 needs an extra help

With only camera and housing it is impossible to produce anything decent as at 5 cm the seahorse will still look tiny

trpplp--I also have the YS-01 and find that it works pretty well in TTL.

Depending on your needs you may want to consider spending the extra dough for the YS-D1, which has a lot more power but still isn't too huge. (I wish I had gone big to start with -- now I am selling my YS-01.)

  • The CHDK TTL script. Without this script the CFWA shots would not be possible and it would make much longer to shoot macro. With the camera operating in manual the standard S series requires you to bracket with strobe this is always tricky as you move the camera angle, exposure changes and so the bracketing required
  • Last but not least the Wiz slate. I created a slate with 4 different shots type with fixed settings so that my buddy could go through a workflow and have a good starting point just by going through the slate

To that regard I am actually thinking to selling the slate with a personalized version depending on the equipment you have, any takers :-D?

Thanks Interceptor - your details have been helpful. I'd definitely be interested in buying the slate, but I'm leaving on Sunday for my trip to Sulawesi so wouldn't have time! I have an S100, RecSea housing, YS-01 strobe and the M67 BigEye lens - I'd put a premium on some custom advice before my trip, PM me if interested.

You've mentioned the CHDK TTL script a couple times but I'm unclear where to find it. I used CHDK on my old SD550 to shoot in RAW, but didn't get crazy with scripts. A pointer to the script would be much appreciated.

The script is on my Dropbox
The link is in the Canon s95 TTL thread
I give plenty of advice to people in Pms there is no charge for that
But the slate rocks and am planning to create customised version for any camera/lens combo plus some standard ones

I'll begin my research now, thanks. I love Palau for big stuff but I want to try the muck diving. I just don't know if I can handle a full week of it without some classical diving tossed in. Hence my thinking on Raja. But I will certainly look seriously at bunaken as part of the trip instead of Raja. I'm in the research stage and thinking of doing the trip next September or October. Any suggestions are appreciated. I only plan on doing this trip once (the travel is a killer) so I would like to plan it to the Nth degree. Thanks again, Jay

If this is your first time out trying muck diving, then head to Lembeh! One of the nice things about it is that there are different types of diving there besides muck diving.
I went there a few years ago over christmas... my first time trying muck diving,.. and really enjoyed all the dives there. Matter of fact, I've been trying to figures out how to get back there again!!

Too bad you're thinking about going in the fall.... if you were to head there the end of Dec tp beg of January I would go too.
