The guide on our boat said the whale sharks are only there between July and September. It was an awesome experience.

Video is great, john. Thanks for sharing. Keeps the memory alive. :D
Are you sure he said July. I do believe the whale shark season starts in June.

It's great. We did a few nights on Holbox and did 2 days with the Dominoes from there, but either way - great. I think they have jacked the prices up too much, but still - outstanding experiences.
I could not finish it because the "music" was so annoying.
See the volume button on your machine. Use it.

Whale shark tour operator recommendations? Preferably those, that have smaller groups and let you swim longer with them.
Lots of info here. I think this op is exactly what you are looking for:

Edit:This was three years ago. We were the last to leave the whale sharks and it was something I'll remember forever. I'm sure to do it again when the opportunity presents itself.

Thanks for the link. I read through the report, but I fear swimming 3 times with the creatures will not be enough for me and my camera. :) Thus, I've been trying to find an operator which would not be like 2 people x times y minutes each and then quickly back, but would rather understand something about photography. :)

You could charter a private boat for a smaller group. Flash photography is not allowed, but you can still get pics and vids.

We could, but it's a bit out of our budget then. :)

We've been trying to find an operator, that would leave earlier, would be there longer, would have smaller groups or something like that. Really hard to differentiate between any of the operators. Based on all the reviews, everyone has just been really satified with their company. :)

I understand your feelings, but non-standard packages would be pricier and more difficult for the seller/operator. I think with 4 snorkelers, you might be able to charter a private boat without paying more per person.
