idiotic ain't it. Not DIR, which is a well thought out idea, but the butt hurt feelings of those who oppose it se ferociously because of a name and a few loud mouths.New to all this and just spent an hour or so reading up on DIR and the controversy.

A negative impression is quite a broad stroke.
While I agree with you in essence, it should not be forgotten where it initial vial of vitriol came from. The current aversion to DIR can be laid cleanly at the door of George Irvine, regardless of how many subsequent apologies or explanations his later-day proxies have proffered.
Why should that even be relevent ... AFAIK, George ain't even diving anymore. He left WKPP years ago, and was never a part of GUE. So how does something he said 20 years ago affect anyone who wasn't on the old rec.scuba forum, or diving caves in the '90's?
This diving version of the Hatfields and McCoys gets really old after a while ... especially when it gets perpetuated by people who weren't involved in those days, and knows nothing of the history ... or even the topic.
Diving's supposed to be something we do for fun ... people would have a lot more fun if they'd just stop being so critical of someone else's choices and worry more about their own ...

Wait... did you just say "stroke" in a thread about negative impressions of DIR divers?
