Anna, I note that you are in Vancouver, so my input might not be very relevant, but I too have abandoned the crotch strap. It is just not at all necessary for my warm-water diving. I have sympathy for your reluctance to glue on a pocket as well. I do have one glued on, and it is convenient, but I'm not much of a do-it-yourselfer, and it looks sloppy and is curling up at the corners to reveal the glue. It's tempting (to me) to have one included on a custom wetsuit, but I only dive in 3-mm or less and the off-the-rack suits fit fine, so it's hard to justify the added expense and effort of having one custom-made.

Thx, Vladimir. I only dive tropical... if it's less than 80, it's too damn cold. ;)

Have you used it much? What do you think of it?

I agree you will be back to a crotch strap. LOL

Many manufacturers claim lots of stuff, and rarely do I believe them. This is the same manufacturer that makes fluffy harness after all. I know when surface swimming all kinds of things move around, as your muscles expand and contract while moving water all around them.

Which ever way you decide to go, I would recommend putting bungee cord inside and clipping everything in your pocket off with either a bolt snap or a double ender.

The ultra-light BP/W is the OxyCheq one and my research tells me that there are those that happily dive it without the crotch strap once it's properly adjusted.

I like the bungee cord in the pocket idea. Thx!

I know that you didn't ask me this question but with a 3mil suit, it would probably work fine. I only used mine with thicker wetsuits which compress more. I've used mine on 20 or so dives but all were with double tanks. It's a pain to bend over and hook the snap with doubles on. It wouldn't be bad with a single.

Thanks, Bob!

I'm planning on calling DGE and Dive Rite tomorrow for extra input. (I hate buying the 'wrong' gear.)

I have one of those and have been on several dives with it. They aren't bad. They are a little more of a hassle to put on and they will slip around on a wetsuit with the depth caused compression of a wetsuit. Not bad but I would rather have a pocket glued on. I've also worn mine with a drysuit, it doesn't slip around as bad but I still would rather have a permanently attached pocket.

Just my $.02 and probably not worth that.

You were right. I ended up getting glue on ones and leaving that one at home.

It was fine in the pool but once I got into the ocean and some surge it moved around to much for me. I ended up getting glue ones of the same model. Sorry it took me so long to reply back I must have missed the post. ;)

I used to wear a couple of those clip on pockets from Dive Rite....it was in intermediate step, since I had always intended to glue them on.

They do hold in place pretty well, just keep them snug. They will move around slightly, but it's not too bothersome if you just snug them up to take up any slack during your dive.

I eventually got the glue on Dive Rite pockets and put them on my 3mm wet suit.

My wife now has the clip on thigh pockets and likes them.....I've offered to glue pockets on for her, but she doesn't want any....says she's fine with the clip on ones.

You'll have to tuck the excess webbing into the elastic band....other than that, the only other annoyance is that the pocket moves around a little when you grab the velcro flap to open the pocket.

Psssst.......Glue on is better...just sayin' :-)

I have that pocket and used it for about 10 or 15 dives. It worked pretty good, but I found I was pretty rough on it while stuffing things in it. Another thing I didn't count on was my memory isn't so good, so a few of times I left it connected once I got on shore. It was embarrassing. I moved to the XS-Scuba glued on ones.

BTW, I am an incurable shell collector, so I am constantly putting shells in them.

Glue/Sew-on Pockets for drysuits & wetsuits at least 3mm thick; X-shorts style pockets for tropical thin skinsuits 1mm or less (too thin material on a skinsuit to attach directly --a glue/sew-on pocket will tear away easily). . .

I wound up buying this pocket from Hollis. I won't be diving again until April so no feedback on it yet other than it seems to be well-constructed.

Since I don't dive with a can light, I'm going to add a D-ring to my right hip 'just in case.' DGE sells low-profile D-rings so I ordered one for each rig. I'll stick with the dreaded crotch strap for now so I've got access to another D-ring back there.

Thanks for the replies!
