I always have to ask with those kind of things: What gives them the right to pull people over for doing nothing wrong?
I think the article explained that too.

Well Gaff, maybe you should call the Chief and see if there is video. Just to make sure you drive as good as you think you do in the wee hours. I have heard that the drunks say the same thing, "I never crossed the lines" etc etc. I have a friend that says he never crosses the line either but I have followed him. I swear the state could save thousands on line paint if he stayed off the fog line. Sober, mind you.

Ya know after the first time I gave them the benefit of the doubt and thought I was doing exactly what you mention. but the next 3 times I saw them in my rear view mirror creeping into my blind spot and I had my cruise control on at the speed limit and paid special attention to staying between the white lines just to see what would happen and after following me for about a mile the old cherries lit up! I actually thought it was funny and I am smart enough not to make them angry by being confrontational and asking them why they are keeping me from getting home and to bed for no reason. And also why had I never been pulled over in the previous 12 years driving the same road just a couple of hours earlier each night? They are just randomly pulling people at bar time.

Well maybe, but then if you were drunk, wouldn't they need to lie in court as well? You never asked them why they stopped you? I mean it sure makes sense that they would be looking for reasons to pull more cars over during the time the most drunks are out.

It used to happen to me too, when I'd drive home from bars - 70 miles! I considered showing them my personal BAC unit but didn't think they'd be impressed with Radio Shack. I got accurate results from writing down the time of each beer on my left palm with indelible marker anyway, and I'd show that to them. "I've had x number of beers since 9:30pm and I weigh over 200#." That was usually enough. It also helped to keep my license plate light and all others operational. ;)

OMG.......why the palm of your hand? Does it make it more believable?
So I won't lose it. You ever been drinking in a cowboy honky tonk? It washed off in a day...

Here is the chart from http://www.tabc.state.tx.us/enforcement/blood_alcohol_percentage_chart.asp Subtract 0.015 for each hour...

Interesting story about that, Don. The table truly is accurate and if you stick to it, it works. (Bartended during college.)

The agencies don't teach it anymore. It seems that people would challenge DUIs because they claim they followed the table exactly, and still got drunk. Of course, you know they miscounted, but it caused such a mess in the courts, the chart isn't pushed anymore.

It looks like an old table -- One ounce of alcohol over 1 hour's time will still put a 100lb person into the .08 danger zone.

Strange that all the kids in my high school class who ended up in the police force back in the state of NY were the biggest law breakers, pot heads and troubled kids in school. Sure there are people who join the force because they want to protect and serve, but there are others who join for bizarre psychological defective issues. Police forces know it, and test for it to try to keep them out because they know it's a big problem.

All I can say is what I know from experience - and my experience has been that the more cops I have gotten to know, the less I like the police and see them as what they are, a necessary evil in our society, who you should watch warily with eyes wide open. Too many of them have the personalities that can't handle the responsibility of being in powerful authoritarian positions. There are plenty of good officers but the defect of the 'blue brotherhood' that makes even the good officers sometimes turn blind eyes to things for the sake of their 'brotherhood' and fraternity adds to the problems. I've known too many cops who over the years have grown into an its' "Us" (cops) Vs "them" (everybody else).

Don't believe there is a us vs them mentality? An insider and outsider mentality? Ever buy one of those stickers the police give people for supporting their causes with donations? The ones you stick on the window of your car so that if you get pulled over they see it and give you a break because you're "in"? Think about that for a minute. Think about what that creates and helps keep active in our police forces.

Unfortunately, that line from a song that "all the cops are criminals" sometimes comes true way too often. We've got another one right now here in Colorado, a super sheriff, a he could do no wrong, world class, many times nominated and winner of the sheriff of the year award, who turns out has been dealing meth and trafficing young boys for sex in a dirty underground world. Yet again, a nobody would have believed it if it wasn't true scenario.

Hey Gypsyjim, on page 5 towards the bottom, #49 I think, you attributed a quote to JG109 (me) ref Baja, federales, guns etc, It wasn't me, maybe crowny?, he was talking about Baja.

Wow, I'm glad I missed the volley as most of us have strong opinions. We can add that to politics and religion.
I'm feeling in the holiday cliche spirit so:
1) 10% (at least) of all people in all fields are probably in the wrong line of work.
2) Your perception is your reality

Peace out, family Christmas in a few hours.
