(this is the second time I posted this. The "new" upgrade on ScubaBoard is a bit buggy to say the least!)
I dove with Bill at Vista Point yesterday. The vis was okay, about 15 feet, after you got away from the classes. The vis stayed decent down to about 35 feet (the first thermocline) then got pretty mookey for about 10 feet before it opened up again. Then it opened up to about 20 feet. We found a second thermocline at about 70 feet that dropped the temp to 58 VT3 degrees. Bill was sans hood and gloves and gave me the universal "I'm freezing my ass off!" signal so we headed back up to balmier waters.

I was trying out my new drysuit (check my avatar pic) on the first dive and I couldn't have been happier. My only disapointment was that I thought (hoped) that the rock boots would have had a thicker sole. As it was the sole is thicker than the booties on my old dry suit but not as thick as my Oceanic wet suit rock boots. I'll pass that along to DUI. I may end up getting Oceanic rock boots big enough to fit my drysuit.

The new suit is cut a bit bigger than my old suit (I can actually reach over my head now) and I was about 4 lbs overweighted so I had a bigger bubble inside the suit to manage than I was used to. Not to worry though. By the end of the dive I had the shoulder vent adjusted to keep me neutral as I ascended. If I had to vent while swimming horizontal, all I had to do was roll slightly to my right.

With my arthritic shoulders I still had to have help getting the zipper started when donning the suit as I don't have the range of motion to get it myself. So much for self donning. I'm thinking about fashioning a tool to help with that. I'll keep the board posted if I come up with something viable. Might be a market for it since there are a lot of old guy divers out there whose shoulders are in as bad a shape as mine.

All in all a good maiden dive with the new drysuit.

Thanks. Hope you and your hubby are not near the fires. When you coming up to the lake again?

Hey Steve,

Good looking suit. Want to head to the ice with me this season and give it a real good test?

Sure. I hear the icecream headache goes away after your face numbs up.

Conditions in lake pleasant are really good. Dove Vista Point on Sunday. 81 Minute dive with Max depth at 110 feet. Temp at the Surface was 76/77 degrees (depending on computer). Temp at depth was 53/54 degrees. Treasure box is currently at 84 feet (lake has dropped over 10' since its high). Vis in shallows is easily 15 feet (before students that is). Vis at depth continues to be good (10 feet in most spots) with ambient light down to 100 feet.

Thermoclines are at 22 feet, 37 feet, 55 feet. When going through the thermoclines, visibility reduces considerably. It does clear up on the other end, but the visibility reduction is about 4 feet in depth.

Great diving. Lots of fish. Saw many Karp, Bass and Catfish.

Happy diving!

Dove Harbor Marina. Vis was 15' to a hazy 30'. Top temp are mid 70's with the thermocline from 15'-35' depending on area. 3 of us where out for 5 1/2hrs freediving and my deepest drop was to a shivering 40' without a suit.
Did see tons of Bass and lunker Cats. Got a couple of shots at Stripers chasing Shad but never connected with the polespear. Found two nice 15lbs anchors. Good times getting these off the bottom.
I'm headed to Mead for a couple days of spearfishing then off to Alabama to spear at the rigs and the swamp for Alligator Gar. I picked up a GoPro so I should have some vids up on Youtube in the next couple of weeks.
Not much of a tank diver but this forum is my goto place for a condition report so I thought I should write a report.
Happy diving.
Aaron

looking for new diving buddies.I could only find 2008.know any 2011 diving plans ,i am new to scuba boad and dove with phxski a couple weeks ago.7/03/2011

Vista Point - we are trying to clear a 3ft wide path from the steps down to the water's edge. If everyone would help keep it clear it would make this task a lot easier. It is just as simple as moving a few rocks out the way each time you go down the path. No major work just kick a few rocks out the way. This might also will make a nice reference point back to shore when the lake fills again each year.

Did a couple of boat dives yesterday at Lake Pleasant with Phxski & Scubasteve2000. Awesome day! Dove the cliffs where the aqua fria enters the lake. At its deepest right now it is about an 80' foot wall dive. However, the best visibility was in the 20 - 30 feet range before the first thermal cline. Vis was up to 30' and we saw tons of fish, including a 40 lb+ catfish tucked in a hole. The wall has multiple caves, overhangs and nooks in which fish are usually present.

Did a second dive over at Scorpion Bay. Similar conditions for viz (actually a little better-Sorry Steve, but thanks for staying with the boat and providing support :D), structure and numbers of fish seen. Some spots the viz improved to where you felt like you were in an aquarium with the amount of ambient light and clear water. Saw another monster catfish and one largemouth bass with a yellow tag in it. Don't know what that is about, any ideas? The topography at Scorpian Bay may be one of the best dive sites at Lake Pleasant. Lots of vertical shelfs and a few small cave-like cut outs. The hard surfaces of the structure seem to consistently provide clearer waters. It is a shame they closed it to shore diving.

Overall, the great viz, structure of the dive sites, amount of fish sightings all coupled with the warm summer water, diving LP yesterday was one my best days ever!
