Who carries a Safety Tube?

In what situation would I need one? It was never discussed much as a required piece of equipment.
 
Lotsa reasons.

-To maintain constant depth for a safety stop
-To signal your location to the boat during a drift dive or if you come up away from yours
-To get someone's attention during an emergency
That's to name a few. I'm sure some of the tech divers can add a few more

Besides who needs a reason to buy more gear

Commonly refered to as sausage or surface marker buoy (SMB). Nylon/rubber elongated device that you tie to a reel or finger spool and carry with you underwater all rolled up. When require, you unroll, attached to the reel, inflate with air and let it shoot to the surface to mark your position.

Damned little. I know the terms "safety sausage" and "surface marker buoy (SMB)," but I've never heard of a "safety tube."
 
18K plus post and never heard a newby refering to a tube? Guess you can always learn something new.
