DD,
As you know, I have been a spearfisherman for over 2 decades. One thing I would NEVER consider would be spearing ( or knifing) fish in an area like BHB, which is morally and functionally used as a marine park. It's just not right. There are plenty of shallow areas where that freediver in the video could have a kick-ass time hunting fish, allowing the growing segment of divers that visit BHB for the experience, to have a better time, rather than a worse time.
How about the South Jetty, or the shallow breakers, or the patch reefs north of Sloans curve...?
I know....And you really don't want to see something like this at the park.I agree Dan. I'm all for collecting dinner, but taking anything from BHB is kind of lame.
It does explain why I have been seeing damaged flounder lately though.![]()
What an assclown. These people should be ostracized.
BUT the fact remains that no laws were broken and someone's rights to harvest recreational amounts of fish should not be infringed upon just because someone doesn't agree with underwater hunting.
At least one law was broken. Spearing within 100 yards of a fishing pier. The entire area is essentially off limits to hunting. 100 yards east of the pier puts you within a hundred yards of the swim area. The East span has a 100 yard no spear zone as well., because the same rules apply to a bridge used for fishing.
