It was raining pretty fiercely on Sunday, to the point where a section of 101 was flooded by about 1ft of water. Luckily, things were a bit calmer by the time we got to Monterey, and after calling a dive at MacAbee, we decided on Breakwater.
One of my favorite BW dives is near the end of the wall, where the shallow rubble pile provides a haven for kelp, and bigger fish, including lings and schools of perch. Typically, we get bombed by a lot of sea lions around here, but apparently they were pooped out from chasing the scooter crowd the day before! We were repeatedly visited by a cormorant who ignored us while pecking along the bottom. He thought so little of us that he gave Steve a bump on one trip up to the surface.
We really weren't expecting much because of the rain and wave action on driving into town, but we were really treated to a calm, relaxing dive with a 15-20ft viz at the wall.
