Hetland, Grouper321, Recharge and myself packed it up Saturday and headed East to dive at St. Andrews State Park in Panama City. High Tide was at around 9:30 AM and the park doesn't open until 8:00 AM so we had to leave early and bust butt to get in the water quickly. Our first dive started at 8:50 AM and we decided to head South toward the Gulf. The weather was gorgeous and the viz in the kiddie pool looked to be over 50 feet.
We weren't disappointed by the viz once we crossed over the jetties either, it had to be pushing 35 feet. We normally take our time and move slowly stopping to take a lot of pictures, but since the viz was so good we moved along quickly to get more of the big picture as we moved south. We made it it to the end of the jetty and then turned around and came back. We saw two Goliath grouper along the way, nestled up in the rocks which we stopped and took some pictures and video of before heading back. All in all a real nice dive.
Vis was 35 feet with a mild current, temp was 86* at the surface and 82* below about 50 feet. Max depth was 68 feet with an average of 45 feet for a dive lasting me 44 minutes.

We took a short surface interval to change tanks and then headed right back for the next dive. We decided to take our time and stay a bit shallower this time to take pictures, and since viz had dropped with the change of the tide to about 20 feet it was a good call. We saw all the usual suspects and a few interesting things during the dive. Someone has screwed a bunch of numbered cards with an orange streamer to rocks all over the place, does anyone have any idea what this is about? I also came across an American flag, nice photo opp. (see below). All in all it was a real nice set of dives which we followed up with a stop at our Sushi restaurant next to Hooters.

Great pics thanks for the report. I may try to dive there Wednesday

I really hate to bring this up but.......I didn't see any tar balls in the topside pic but were there any?

I didn't see any indications of oil, but I did see part of a clean-up crew, and two guys from the Coast Guard on foot doing a recon of the area.

I love St Andrews!! I hope it will continue to be diveable this summer!!

Great pictures Xray. I hope things will stay clear enough to dive for our normal get together at the PC Jetties. I just got promoted today and my schedule is back open to getting into the water. I hope to get up with everyone soon and get in some fun dives.
