...then burglaries while tourists slept in the other room, then it was kidnapping and now murder.
Seahunt bumped a year and half old thread. What kidnapping, murder?
With cajones that tuner fish has, he's welcome to provide security on our next trip! A few free beers will be provided!

What kidnapping, murder?

They actually did find the Dutch girl that was missing....unfortunately it was her body in a shallow grave.

Did she kill herself, put herself in that grave? This is not the first murder there, right? While still much more rare, it is not non existent.

Well, no - sad case but not a recent one. There's been one murder in Cozumel and several near Cancun in recent months, all of which need to be taken in context - none of which will discourage me from visiting any of those locations, nor Amarillo TX, etc.

Murder is not a new problem on Bonaire, it seems.

January 11, 1988 SUSPECT ARRESTED. Police in Curacao have arrested a suspect in the death of a 15-year-old Ontario girl on the Carribean resort island of Bonaire. Global Television quoted police as saying they had arrested the suspect and he had been returned to Bonaire. The body of Shay Harwood of Chatham was found in the washroom of a luxury hotel Dec. 31, on the eve of her 16th birthday. She had been vacationing with her aunt, uncle and cousin on the island of Bonaire, about 50 miles off Venezuela's northern coast.

VACATION TRAGEDY.March 21, 1988TORONTO — VACATION TRAGEDY. The uncle of a Canadian girl murdered on the Caribbean island of Bonaire says police aren't doing all they can to find the killer. Norm Ritchie complained that the investigation into the death of Shay Harwood, 15, has been suspended. ''You don't stop until you find the person responsible,'' he said. The girl's body was found in a hotel washroom a few hours after she had left her relatives on a beach.

PF..I did enjoy the hiatus when you (and your one sided venom about Bonaire) were absent. But alas, now I see you're back having now dragged up a 22 year old case to make your point that "murder is not a new problem". Really as keithdiver posted...get a life..Why don't you focus on the immense problems within your own home town of Charlotte? Perhaps you can do some good there.I'm going back to Bonaire in 4 weeks and frankly can't wait to return.

But, on a lighter note, hope you enjoyed your dive trip several months ago and remembered to turn the air valve counter clockwise before your dive.

What I don't get is the vehicle theft and the leave nothing in the vehicle issues.

My experience on Curacao is that the vast majority of rental vehicles have an alarm system.

It is annoying, as they don't give you any instructions as to how to arm and disarm it. If you don't arm and disarm it, it will arm itself. Not much vehicle theft with that noise going on.

Why can't they do the same thing on Bonaire?

That would cut down on the vehicle theft, the broken glass and who knows what else.

Any thoughts on why they don't do that?

It just makes me wonder?

Is it just an old vehicle fleet on Bonaire? Not willing to spend the little money necessary to equip the vehicles?
