Hey, they release their sperm and eggs in the water every few days anyway. When you spear them, if that even is true (and I think it's urban legend), at least it is the LAST time they release them!!! And, of course, there has to be another lionfish nearby for the eggs to be fertilized...but you'll spear that one too, right?

they really only release them when a Female or male is by... that's what happened during there mating.... that's what my fish friend said...

someone told me not to spear them because if you spear a lionfish they release their sperm or eggs in the water (don't remember which) has anybody else heard of this?

Yes, one of my closest friends is a marine biologist and I asked him about this, it is absolutely, 100% untrue.

THANKS, Chip! That urban legend was spouted by some old guy I met on a dive boat in Lantana last month. I'm betting he's a REEF volunteer.

And if you re-read my post, Brett, I say "even if it were true" (I don't believe that it is), it would be the LAST time they did it.

I'm thinking how awesome some LIONFISH Teriyaki would be. Over Jasmine rice. Yum.

When y'all cook it, invite me over! :)

I'm probably older than you are. Just sayin'.

So far as REEF, we've discussed for the past few months about how they are doing nothing about the LIONFISH problem. Visit the LIONFISH thread and ask for more details and you will receive them.

You're asking her to visit a location on the board where you know she will be ridiculed? :(

Negative.
