I’ll be in Stavanger Norway for most of February and I’ll have a few weekends open. I was wondering what the diving opportunities are in Stavanger this time of year. I understand it will be COLD, -I like cold and I’m an experienced dry suit diver.

I won’t be able to bring my gear so I’ll have to rent everything. Is it possible to rent all the cold water gear required? Any suggestions for dive shops or locations?

You've got Stavanger Dykkersenter, a good tec/rec senter easily located under the city bridge (Address: Verven 24B, Stavanger - map). You won't get much info off their web page, but you should be able to reach the shop by phone, +47 51531555.

Badedammen Dykkerklubb is located at SDS, and could be another point of contact. I think they arrange the tours, and could probably hook you up with gear too. They've got a forum, and you could also send them an e-mail.

Another dive center is Jæren Dykk, not far from the oil museum. Their web page is all Norwegian and really confusing, so you're probably better off calling them (+47 51890506 / +47 90853229) or sending an e-mail.

Thanks! - I'll start emailing and calling.

Hi Bogrady,

how was your trip? am planning to be Stavangar in march & was wondering if you had any tips on finding a dive there? :)

Cheers,
Dan

I was able to take several trips covering a total of 6 months in Stavanger in 2010. Unfortunatly I did not get to dive a single time ... and it nearly killed me. The water is spectacular and the local divers told me stories about dives that nearly brought me to tears.

Do whatever it takes to get a dive in here ... and figure out a way to take me.

English | STAVANGER DYKKERKLUBB

This is the club I´m usually diving with, who are extremely active.

There are diving going on more or less every day, sometimes several dives a day.

Also, Stavanger Dykkersenter is as good as a dive-shop can be, when only open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 17:30 to 19:30. They have decent prices and good service.

Jæren Dykkersenter is... Well, let´s just say "no comment"...
