I'm am happy and have hit the rec limit of 130', it was touch an go for a bit there... apparently the sticking issue wasnt ME this time actually as it was my Instructor, as he'd never dove Gilboa before (deepside or otherwise), so what he allowed us to do was do 80' on the first dive and then if everyone felt Ok with that we were ok'd to go over the wall for dive #2 ....

Cold. 40 degrees past 100'.

That completes my 4th specialty, I've met all the requirements for AOW , but I'm gonna take Stress Rescue and jus' get the Master card...

Why go to 130 in a quarry on a rec dive? I could maybe understand it on a wreck ( ok not really).

Good luck. Mike is a stickler in his ways. I was there for my deep diving course. Four hour drive. Myself and two thats"2" instuctors.(one on each shoulder) showed him my apeks regs, my dive log, (40 dives) dry suit, 40 slung poney, and he said "NOPE"... man were my instuctors pi$$ed/insulted....we just dove the shallow side, then went down the wall to the deep. Don't get me wrong...Mike is the owner and he hates when people die in his quarry. (2 per year) that can't be easy to take. He runs a VERY tight ship is all.

I talked to Mike yesterday and told him of the little debate going on about Solo diving at his place. It's true---if you have solo certification, you can do it. He doesn't push it very hard, but it can be done. I didn't even know there was such a cert available. Does PADI offer this? Does that mean I have to get another cert?:shocked2: Crap, I thought I was all done!

Based on the wording on the form, not even with solo certification.

Ken

Based on the form deco diving isn't allowed but we do it. :) Of course we file a proper plan, too.

and because I was doing my SSI Deep Certification that day

don' disparage someones choice of diving jus' because its not your own... lemme help you off that horse... gettin' a lil' lightheaded up there...

that SDI is the only agency that offers a solo certification

Timegan, What reason(s) did Mike give for not allowing you and your instructors to dive the deep side?

we both had the redundant equiptment but my instructor had never dove Gilboa before... That was the sticking point...

so he let us go to 80' on the first dive and if everything went AOK we were ok'd to go Deep on the 2nd dive...

he has a list of requirements... and even if you meet them you wont be diving Deepside if he gets any kind of funny feeling about you... , but he has his reasons and its his place so everybody deals with it (some deal with it by never going to Gilboa, ever).

I had been denied access to the deepside on two times previous to this last tho'... (rectified by attaining additional dives/experience and a 40cf pony).

Once you get to know him tho' you find he really is a great guy with a big heart, and his operation is real nice... in my opinion its the Best in Ohio (even if a lil' on the pricey side) and I'm glad I live close enough to hit it up a couple times/year...
