That video was scary - the kid driving the boat even more so than the diver!

It's the same kid...on the same day...

BOOOOOO! (hope I didn't scare you too much) ..:rofl3::rofl3:

Video camera, spear-gun, wreck penetration, and a 10yo buddy?

Recipe for disaster.

:shakehead:

Pretty much the responses I expected and my mom said the same thing when watching the video. I honestly think I had less control over his safety today when we went for a bicycle ride on the public roads.

As for the other comments, I was holding the camera in one hand and trying to keep a very good eye on the kid. I decided not to load the speargun, when I realized how strong the current was.

I've only seen a mola mola a few times in my life, the kid has no idea how lucky he is to see that thing. How many kids get to pet a mola and dive with 300 lb grouper before they turn 11 yrs old?

Wow that kid was awful -- hanging on to the wreck, swimming with his hands...yeesh.

...and don't get me started on the quality of the video. :shakehead:

It's not a quarry....:dork2: The current was probably 1.5 to 2 kts on that wreck. The video from the surface shows the surface current was around 4.5 kts (or mph), but that was further offshore while following a drift deco in 230-250 ft.

What do you expect a person to do in those types of currents?

You have made ridiculous claims about currents before, and still do so. If the current were 1.5-2knots, most scooters wouldn't make headway, much less a person.

How did you VERIFY the current, other than saying "hmm.....looks like 4.5 knots......" ??

The freaking video SHOWS the speed on the GPS, you DORK. There is also audio comments about it.

Edit: The speed is the third number down in the display on the boat. The speed reading is bouncing around a little from like 3.8 to 5.2 or something and 4.5 is a decent approximation.

Maybe I'm daft but....

Aren't we taught that we should not consider diving with a Jr Diver (under 16 yrs) as diving with a buddy but instead we should have a second older diver with us as the 10 yr old probably wouldn't be able to effectively assist in the case of a dire situation?

Aren't we taught that we shouldn't overload on tasks (Speargun, video camera, Wreck penetration, watching over Jr Diver)?

Aren't we taught to keep hands off the wrecks to not damage the life that is growing on them?

Aren't we taught not to grope the marine animals?

It's kind of shocking that an INSTRUCTOR would violate all of these common standards and then post video of it bragging on the internet.

You're right I don't know DumpsterDiver and his son but I do know that everything I mentioned happened in the video he posted.

On the good side he did observe the requirement of redundant air supply (back mounted pony bottle).
