Well four weeks ago me and my son show up for our AOW DIVES. 1st thing in the morning we suit up and I go to pull our container with all our weights out of the back of my truck and pop, pop, pop, O F--k that hurt. I took some time to recover and noticed a knot on my bicep, well it hurt but I wanted to dive so it didn't hurt that much. We did our three dives that sat. and went home to rest for my two dives on sun. We show up sun. morning and I told the instructor that my arm was shot. He said that he didn't want me to dive. I said well we are here and the worst part is getting in my suit,so I want to try and if i get into something that I cant handle I will signal you to abort the dive and we'll call it a day. He agreed and we did our dives and both past with flying colors.
Then three doctors and four weeks later I find out that I have a torn rotator cup and a ruptured proximal long head bicep tendon. So now I go in to be operated on,in a sling for six weeks and god knows how long to rehabilitate. Well I hope next year is better!!

Ouch ... I am sorry.

Part of diver training should be 'how to handle the gear without getting hurt' :depressed:

I learned the hard way as well that brute force vs steel and lead only yield temporary victories at best. They eventually get their revenge.

Bummer ... is it actually your rotator "cuff," or is rotator cup something I haven't heard of before? The shoulder ... a common injury for baseball pitchers. Speedy recovery to you.

Man! That totally sucks! I just hope you can maintain a positive outlook on diving through your recovery; don't let this incident become the thing that turns you into one of those guys that "gave diving a try, but..."

Now I'm going to go back to carrying the weight belts out to the car one at a time.

when I had mine worked on, I tried to work it oput as often as possible, 12oz curls, 4-6 sets per night outta do it....good luck

Nursing an inflamed rotator cuff as well. Rest and rehabilitation over the winter should put you in good shape for next year. Bummer you're missing the rest of the season, but with some patience and hard work, it'll be a temporary setback!

Next time, realize what "the son" is best used for. Make him your own personal DM.
